The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education is a multi-campus University with its main campus at Rumuolumeni Town in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. The other campuses are located at Ndele in Emohua Local Government Area and St. John’s Diobu in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State. The institution which is the second University of Education in Nigeria started as a College of Education in June 1971, and was affiliated to the University of Ibadan.

In October, 2009 the Rivers State College of Education was upgraded to a full-fledged University, now known and called Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.
The mandate of the University includes but not limited to the provision of qualified teachers to meet the needs of the State in particular and Nigeria at large. To conduct research in education and related disciplines appropriate for a University of the highest standing.

The Governing Council of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in performance of its statutory duties as provided by the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (Amendment) Law no. 2 of 2010 hereby invites suitably qualified, distinguished and experienced academics to fill the position below:

Job Title: Vice Chancellor

Job Description

  • The Vice Chancellor shall in accordance with Section 10 (1) – (3) of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (Amendment) Law no. 2 of 2010, be the Chief Executive Officer of the University.
  • He is also the Chief Accounting Officer and the Academic Head of the institution.
  • The right person for this position shall provide academic and administrative leadership

Requirements/Qualifications
The person to be appointed Vice-Chancellor should among other things:

  • Possess impeccable integrity, focused, resourceful, highly innovative and firm
  • Understand contemporary demands of leadership in a University system
  • He/She should have had a wide administrative experience of not less than twelve (12) years, and be capable of giving dynamic, academic and transformational leadership to the University
  • Be one with high scholastic and academic credentials, who should have outstanding accomplishment in academics and/or in public life generally
  • Command both national and international respect, particularly in the academic world to enhance the good reputation of the University;
  • Be one who is likely to command the respect and loyalty of staff (academic & non-teaching and students of the University
  • Be a person who is not likely to foster personal, racial, ethnic, political, religious or sectional interest
  • Candidate must be morally sound
  • He or she must be free from financial embarrassment
  • Be of good health, with a pleasant and strong personality
  • Be a person of courage who can take decisions on the merit of facts in accordance with the rules, principles and regulations and not on the basis of pressures from individuals or groups
  • Be a Professor of Education and with reasonable years of post- professorial experience;
  • Be not more than sixty-five (65) years of age at the time of appointment and must be a Nigerian
  • Be a person with good knowledge of information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills.

Conditions of Services
Remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Vice-Chancellor in Nigerian Universities, and as may be determined from time to time by the Governing Council or the Rivers State Government.

Tenure
  • Th person appointed into the position of Vice-Chancellor shall serve for a Single term of five (5) years.
