The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) is a multilateral development bank (MDB) which funds its projects and other developmental activities using Islamic finance. Hence, the name “Islamic”. Founded in 1975, the IsDB is headquartered in Jeddah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The purpose of the Bank is to foster economic development and social progress of its member countries. 

The Bank is now in the process of opening Country Gateway Offices (CGOs) in five major member countries namely; Turkey, Indonesia, Nigeria, Bangladesh and Egypt. The core functions of CGOs may be summarized as strategizing, project preparation, implementation facilitation and relations building. Turkey and Indonesia CGOs are fully operational, to be followed by Nigeria. The Country Gateway Office (CGO) for Nigeria is located in the 4th Floor of Mukiar El Yakub Place at Plot 1129 along Zakari Maimalari Street, Abuja Central Business District.

Job Title: Agricultural Economist

Location: Nigeria

Principal Responsibilities

  • A high caliber and results-oriented professional whose primary responsibilities would be to contribute to the IsDB’s policy and operational activities in agriculture and rural development.
  • Among others, this will be achieved through deep sectoral diagnostics; identification and development of sector priorities; conceptualization and implementation of agricultural projects and programs; networking and partnering with others (including non-state actors) and provision of knowledge products and advisory services.

Required Education & Experience

  • Preferably Masters Degree in Agricultural Economics / PhD in Economics with a bias in Agriculture or Rural Development. BSc holders with long practical experience may also be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ cognate experience in Agricultural and Rural Development.
  • Advanced knowledge of agricultural and rural development and its multidisciplinary nature.
  • Hands on experience in developing complex agricultural / rural development projects and programs.
  • Ability to conduct analytical or diagnostic work on economic development issues within the IDB priority areas.
  • Deep knowledge and insights of agriculture sector issues.
  • Good mastery of standard computer applications.
  • Strong ability to undertake financial, economic and cast effective analyses to projects and programs.
  • Excellent presentation, analytical, negotiation and leadership skills.


Job Title: Human Development Specialist

Location: Nigeria

Principal Responsibilities

  • A high caliber, self-motivated and results-oriented professional whose primary responsibilities are to deliver the Bank’s Education and Health Sector Operations in Nigeria including Identification, preparation, appraisal, implementation and supervision; and to contribute to Country strategic sector works, policy dialogue and visioning process in education and health.

Required Education & Experience

  • M.Sc / PhD in relevant discipline from a reputable Institution
  • Professional qualification in Education, Health, Health Engineering, Business Administration and any relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years cognate experience in social sectors (Education/Health Systems) and broad knowledge of all aspects of international trends in education and health sectors gained through advanced academic study and! or special development.
  • Conversant with Global trends & Challenges in Human Development
  • Expert in Education or Health System Organization & Management (Management information Systems and governance)
  • Equity and gender issues in social sectors
  • Training and professional development
  • Education and health sector analysis and assessment
  • Demonstrable Project management and operations experience
  • Excellent presentation, analytical, negotiation and leadership skills:
  • Strong knowledge of French and Arabic languages would be an added advantage.


Job Title: Water and Sanitation Specialist

Location: Nigeria

Principal Responsibilities

  • The lsDB is seeking a high caliber and results-oriented professional whose primary responsibilities are to carry out the identification, appraisal, supervision and administration of its financed operations under the Urban Development & Services Division at the Headquarters.
  • The professional will assist in articulating the development of water supply and sanitation (WSS) sector strategies and policies in Nigeria and elsewhere.
  • S(he) will work according to the general policies, principles and goals of the lsDB and in close collaboration with internal and external project stakeholders.

Required Education & Experience

  • Advanced educational qualification (M.Sc / PhD) in relevant discipline from a reputable Institution
  • Minimum of 5 years cognate experience in the relevant sector(s)
  • Planning, processing and monitoring of the work program of the Urban Development and Services Division in Nigeria
  • Review project request., in consultation with the Country Programs Department at the Headquarters for the identification of WSS projects in Nigeria
  • Understanding of the urban and sanitation issues in Nigeria, the region and developing countries as a whole
  • Grasp of trends in WSS sectors and their implications on lOB operations
  • Excellent presentation, analytical, negotiation and leadership skills;
  • Strong knowledge of French and Arabic languages would be an added advantage.

Job Title: Project Procurement Analyst

Location: Nigeria

Principal Responsibilities

  • This critical and across-the-board position requires a professional having excellent inter-personal skills coupled with deep knowledge of country and international procurement systems.
  • The incumbent will provide operational and analytical support on all procurement matters and support implementation of procurement arrangements under the IsDB-financed operations.
  • S(he) will work as a technical staff receiving all functional assignments and technical guidance on procurement matters/issues from the Manager, Procurement & Policy Division In the Operations Policy & Services Department (OPSD) at the Headquarters.

Required Education & Experience

  • Minimum of B.Sc, but preferably MSc in Engineering, Law, Business Administration from a reputable Institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years cognate experience in Project Procurement (project management and technical analysis).
  • Provide procurement support services to peers and colleagues, divisions and departments.
  • Proven analytical and evaluative skills, including the ability to independently provide well researched analyses of key procurement issues and problems.
  • Ability to carry out necessary analysis of procurement issues to support decision making by senior procurement staff
  • Demonstrable Project management and operations experience
  • Excellent presentation, analytical, negotiation and leadership skills
  • Strong knowledge of French and Arabic languages would be an added advantage.
