Job Title: Family Planning Research Consultant
Palladium is hiring a Research Consultant to oversee the day-to-day activities of and provide technical input for a 4 month qualitative analysis. The analysis will identify a) the gaps in evidence needed to successfully make the case for FP at national, state and LGA levels (focusing on USAID priority areas) and b) the readiness and willingness of civil society and implementers to develop and execute an evidence-based advocacy agenda.
Successful completion of the assignment may result in an offer of full-time employment on the project.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Help develop research approach/implementation plan, and ensure compliance with milestones and deadlines
  • Develop interview questionnaires for parts A and B of the analysis
  • Identify and select key informants/interviewees, including those from public and private sectors, at national, state, and local government levels. Serve as first point of contact for all communications with key informants/interviewees
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for handling interview logistics and liaising with Palladium’s in-country operations team
  • Lead and conduct interviews with selected stakeholders
  • Lead and oversee the work of two short-term research support team members, who will assist in conducting interviews and data entry/coding
  • Conduct analysis of interview outcomes and document findings in a succinct report
  • Hold weekly update/report out meetings with US-based Project Manager, and participate in meetings with Palladium project staff in Nigeria, keeping them informed of activities
  • Represent the project externally as needed (e.g. provide updates on milestones/progress at meetings)

Minimum Education and Experience Required

  • Master’s degree in Demography, Public Health, or other related discipline from a recognized institution
  • Proven experience conducting qualitative research activities, including NVivo and Atlas.ti
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience with family planning, reproductive health, and/or population projects
  • Mastery of written and verbal English-language communication skills

Key Competencies

  • Thorough knowledge of the family planning landscape in Nigeria
  • Demonstrated familiarity and experience working with FP stakeholders, including decision-makers at federal, state/FCT, and LGA levels, and FP advocacy organizations
  • Strong writing skills, ability to synthesize information into a cohesive report/product
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Nigeria
  • Experience with USAID projects and gender programming is a plus
