Delta State School of Maritime Technology, Burutu – The enabling act
establishing the Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu was
enacted on 2nd August, 2006. The act provides details on the specific
functions; management and other purposes connected therewith the school.

Job Title: Librarian
Location: Delta
Position and Duties
- Shall be responsible to the Provost for the administration of the affairs of the school’s library/library services
- Shall administer efficient working of all full time and
temporary employees; evaluate performance of librarians; assist to
develop various library instruction programs; assist staff and students
for same and other relevant duties to the library improvement as my be
detailed out by the provost
Qualifications and Experience
- Candidates for the post of the School Librarian must hold a good
Bachelor’s degree with at least seventeen (17) years experience or a
Master’s degree (M.L.S) from an NUC recognized institution of higher
learning with fifteen (15) years cognate working experience in the
academia (library) and must belong to recognized professional body (ies)
relevant to library.
Terms of Appointment
The appointment of the provost is for a single tenure of five (5) years only.
Job Title: Provost
Location: Delta
Position and Duties
- This is the Chief Executive of the school and shall be
responsible for the day to day administration of the affairs of the
school. - Candidates will be expected to provide academic and professional
leadership in the execution of the guidelines laid down by the
governing bodies - Other duties as specified in the law establishing the school.
Qualifications and Experience
- Candidates should be persons of academic eminence of not below
the status of Chief Lecturer in a polytechnic or Senior Lecturer in a
university; must be a chief lecturer of at least five (5) years
experience. - Candidates should be holders of Doctorate from any NUC
recognized/approved institution in a field relevant to at least one
program in the school with at least fifteen (15) years teaching and
applied research/industrial work experience or holders of master’s
degree in an NUC recognized institution in a field relevant to seventeen
(17) years teaching/applied research/industrial work experience. - Candidates should be of exemplary character in honesty moral rectitude and unassailable integrity
- In addition to either a doctorate or master’s degree with the relevant experience, candidates should have:
- Demonstrable ability to move the institution forward
- Registration with a recognized professional body and must have experience in running a tertiary institution
- Demonstrable ability to offer strong academic and administrative
leadership initiative and creativity in policy implementation positive
managerial attributes and good public relations - Demonstrable high level of integrity and honesty
- Demonstrable ability to initiate and supervise applied research
- Candidates must have a sound and clear vision and mission for the institution for the five (5) years of School Registrar
Terms of Appointment
The appointment of the provost is for a single tenure of five (5) years only.
Job Title: Registrar
Location: Delta
Position and Duties
- Shall be responsible to the Provost for the administration of the affairs of the school.
- Shall by virtue of the Office, be the Secretary to the Council, the Academic Board and the Congregation.
- He shall be secretary to the Council, the Academic Board, the
Congregation and shall perform other duties as the provost shall from
time to time assign to him/her and as stated in the Law establishing the
School.
Qualifications and Experience
- Candidates for the post of Registrar must hold a good Bachelor’s
degree from a recognized institution of higher learning with at least
seventeen (17) years cognate experience or a Master’s degree with
fifteen (15) years cognate experience or a Doctorate degree with twelve
(12) years cognate experience from NUC recognized/approved institutions. - Candidates should also possess sound administrative prowess and belong to a relevant administrative professional body (ies).

The appointment of the provost is for a single tenure of five (5) years only.
