The Federal School of Surveying, Oyo is a Tertiary Institution set up primarily to produce Professionals, Technologists and Technicians in the field of Land Surveying and Geo-informatics and other related Progmmmes for the national economy.

The post of the Rector of Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, Oyo State, Nigeria will become vacant very soon. The Governing Council of Federal School of Surveying, Oyo wishes to commence the process for the appointment of a new Rector for the School. Consequently applications are hereby invited from suitably candidates for the position below:

Job Description
The Rector:

  • The Rector is the Chief Academic, Administrative and Accounting Other of the School. He has the power to exercise general authority over both the Staff and Students and he is also responsible for discipline in the School, subject to the general control of the Governing Council.
  • In addition to proven Management and leadership experience, the successful Candidate must have a demonstrated passion for academic endeavor and be credible to the academic Community.

Qualifications and Experience

  • The Candidate for the post is expected to possess the following qualifications and qualities:
  • Must possess a B.Sc Degree in Surveying and Geo-informatics or its equivalent from a recognized institution though B.Sc, Surveying and Geo-informatics is an advantage Possession of higher Degrees such as M.Sc/Ph.d in Surveying and Geo-informatics will be an added advantage.
  • Must possess NYSC Discharge or Certificate of exemption
  • Must be registered with Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON)
  • Must have had a minimum of fifteen (15) years post-qualification cognate experience in teaching and research in an Institution of higher learning. He/she must not be below the rank of Chief Lecturer in a Polytechnic or Reader in a University or an equivalent Institution.
  • Must not be more than 60 years of age as at the time of assumption of Office.
  • Must demonstrate evidence of strong academic and administrative leadership, initiative and creativity in policy in formulation, good human relations and positive Managerial attributes.
  • Must provide evidence of Scholarly publications in reputable journals as well as presentation of invited papers at Educational, Conferences, Seminars and/or Workshops.
  • Must provide evidence of Member of reputable Professional body/bodies in Nigeria.
  • Must be able to attract research grants and development facilities to the School.
  • Must be a person with initiative and vision for sustaining the accelerated pace of development of the School even under financial and other challenging constraints.
  • Must be a fair-minded and dynamic individual with an impeccable reputation.
  • Must be a person who is not likely to pursue racial, ethical, political,religious or other sectional interest.
  • Must be ready to encourage the on-going Federal Government change programme in the Polytechnic sector.
  • Must demonstrate interpersonal and team building skills and possess the ability to strengthen the bridges between Staff, Students,other members of the School and the Community.
  • Must have demonstrable ability to establish and maintain partnerships with Local and International Governmental and Non-Governmental Agencies.
  • Must enjoy excellent physical and mental health.
  • Must be Information and Communication Technology (ICT) proficient.

Terms of Appointment/Condition of Service
The appointment is for a term of four (4) years in the first instance and renewable subject to satisfactory performance, for another term of four (4) years and no more. The salary is consolidated and the appointee shall enjoy other benefits of Office as may be approved from time to time by the Federal Government.

  • Names and addresses of three (3) Referees (Employer, Educational and Personal) who are to forward Confidential reports directly to the Registrar, Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, Oyo State. Such Referees should be able to attest to life Candidate claims to high academic and Managerial capabilities as well as their notable uprightness.
