Job Title: Accountant


Job Description

The Accountant reports to the Finance and Logistics Manager and the position will be located in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria:
Support the timely and accurate preparation and recording of monthly Sponsorship funds, in close coordination with the Finance and Social Empowerment staff.
Under the supervision of the Finance and Logistics Manager, reconciles all sponsorship disbursements and maintains an updated list of undistributed funds on a monthly basis.
Assist in the daily booking of approved transactions into QuickBooks.
Prepares monthly cash and bank reconciliation schedules.
Works closely with the Finance Assistant to ensure timely clearing of all advances
Assist the Finance Manager with preparation and distribution of monthly and annual financial statements and closings.
Ensures that all entries in the bank and cash registers are valid and fully supported prior to posting.
Ensures that internal control procedures are followed for all cash disbursements, receipts and transfers.
Maintains updated list of all authorized signatories and ensures payments are only made in accordance with policies and procedures.
In coordination with the Human Resources and Administration Officer, support the Finance and Logistics Manager in the preparation of employee payroll and payments to contractors and consultants while ensuring compliance with local tax and labor regulations.
Ensures timely submission of statutory deductions.
Ensures proper account coding and recording in line with the spending plan.
Ensures that monthly allocation entries are properly calculated, coded and entered into QuickBooks.
Ensures regular payments to vendors.
Performs other duties assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
ACA, ACCA or equivalent designation is preferred.
At least three (3) years relevant work experience, preferably with a NGO.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with close attention to details.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Office Applications; experience in QuickBooks accounting software.
Strong commitment to honesty, integrity and transparency.
Discretion with sensitive materials and a strong understanding of confidentiality.
Fluency in spoken and written English is required; local language is an added advantage.
