Protest Rocks NPA Recruitment in Kano

Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) – There was mild drama in Kano, yesterday, as some young men, under the aegis of Young Pharmacists Group, stormed Tahir Guest Palace where alleged secret interview for job placement was being conducted by Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, by Human Resource Manager, Bukar Yahaya, for selected applicants.

The group, led by its chairman, Lukman Bashir, protested non-invitation of his members for the interview.

He said: “We got information of secret recruitment by NPA in Kano after a similar exercise in the North-East, and we stormed this place to ascertain from the Human Resource Manager why pharmacists are left out.”

Bashir appealed to the Federal Government to wade into the matter and make it open to all professionals, irrespective of background.

“I want to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to halt this glaring injustice against less-privileged Nigerians by making it open to qualify candidates,” he said.

Vanguard reports that applicants, who were mostly children of the affluent in the society massed at AbdulAzeez Yari Conference hall of Tahir Guest Palace for the exercise.

It was also learned that the Kano secret recruitment was sequel to a similar exercise in the North-East last September.

Contacted on the veracity of the claim that the interview was being secretly conducted, the Human Resource Manager, NPA, Bukar Yahaya, said: “I’m a civil servant, I don’t have the authority to speak to the press.”
