Nasarawa State Government Says over 80% of teachers in the state are Unqualified

Nasarawa state Governor, Tanko Al-Makura has disclosed that over 80% of teachers in the state are unqualified for the profession. He said this at the opening ceremony of two days curriculum review for Colleges of Education, at the College of Education, Akwanga in Akwanga local government where he was represented by the state commissioner for education, Ahmed Tijjani-Aliyu. The governor however said that rather than sack the teachers as El Rufai did in Kaduna state, they will be retrained. He said:

“We will train and retrain them to meet up with the required standard.”

The governor urged colleges of education in the country to rise up to their responsibilities and intensify more efforts in the training of teachers.
