Program Background

  • IMC has been present in Nigeria since 2013 and is currently active in Sokoto and Kano States in North-West and in Borno State in the North-East with a Country Office in Abuja.
  • International Medical Corps has received funding from the European Commission Humanitarian Office (ECHO) for a nutrition project in Sokoto State aiming at reducing the burden of malnutrition in children under five and pregnant and lactating women in Binji and Wamakko LGAs.
  • There is also an ECHO, OFDA and WFP funding in Borno for Emergency WASH, Food Security, Nutrition Health and Gender Based Violence Interventions for Conflict Affected populations in Maiduguri.
  • In Kano and Borno, the Core Group Polio Project (CGPP) is a multi-partner initiative that coordinates NGO activities to strengthen national and state immunization system to eradicate polio.
  • IMC is an implementing partner under CGPP polio eradication project in six LGAs through the local partner in Kano and eleven LGAs in Borno. This project contributes to eradicate polio by increasing immunization rate and improving acute flaccid paralysis surveillance in the project population.
  • The project is supporting MOH and LGA efforts to strengthen immunization systems, building effective partnership with the state officials as well as local partner.

Job Summary

  • The Nutrition Coordinator will be responsible for leading the nutrition team and providing technical support and capacity building of the team to successfully plan, implement and monitor International Medical Corps nutrition program activities in Nigeria. The Coordinator must have the ability to organize and support all aspects of the nutrition program including liaising with the Ministry of Health, nutrition cluster, other international and national agencies, and donors.
  • The Nutrition Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that the nutrition programs in Borno State and surrounding LGAs in North East Nigeria are implemented in line with the Ministry’s guidelines and international humanitarian standards and donor guidelines.
  • Additionally, the Nutrition Coordinator will work closely with the Program Director and Emergency Program Coordinator to provide input into proposal development and country level strategies as required.


Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Strong skills in technical proposal writing and donor reporting, designing and implementing nutrition programs
  • Ability to provide technical support for IMC staff and government staff on proper implementation of CMAM, IYCF, SBC and other nutrition activities.

Qualifications
Training, Education and Experience:

  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Experience with food vouchers and food distribution activities and post-distribution monitoring highly preferred
  • Experience with food vouchers and food distribution activities and post-distribution monitoring highly preferred
  • Competency in local Northern languages, highly desired
  • Familiarity with design and programming processes of different donors (ECHO, OFDA, WFP, FFP, DFID, UNDP, etc)
  • Knowledge in designing and implementing appropriate and effective holistic nutrition programs including ensuring that the nutrition program is integrated with food security, health and WASH programming where appropriate
  • Ability to read, analyse and interpret data and familiarity with nutrition surveys (Coverage, SMART and KAP surveys).
  • Masters in Public Health Nutrition or equivalent in Nutrition/Public Health from recognized learning institution plus 5 years of experience in related field or Bachelor degree in Nutrition or related field of study with 8 years of experience in related field
  • Proven experience in emergency nutrition settings including CMAM, IYCF, SBC
  • Experience of facilitation of training review meetings and workshops
  • Experience on budget and administration logistics and Human Resources management
  • Experience on writing / developing project proposals including implementation reports
  • Knowledge of local context is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work effectively with government, community leaders, international/national organizations, donors, partners and other International Medical Corps relationships.
  • Strong communication skills, able to effectively present information clearly and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers and headquarters staff, counterparts, senior government leaders and donors
  • Strong supervisory and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in ensuring community participation and gender issues in humanitarian programming
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of MS Office, and other computer applications
  • Ability to cope with stress; hardship; patience and flexibility and willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines;
  • Ability and willingness to travel to field sites and nutrition facilities.
