Description
NRC is looking for a Food Security Coordinator for our area office in Maiduguri in Northern Nigeria. The purpose of the Food Security Coordinator is to Develop and Implement programme activities in Maiduguri and in the field offices

NRC initiated country operations in Nigeria in June 2015, in order to respond to the critical and increasing needs in the country. NRC currently has a full team based in Maiduguri and a coordination office in Abuja. NRC is currently providing services across various sectors namely; Shelter and Non-Food Items (NFI); Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WASH); Food Security; and Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) in order to address identified humanitarian needs.

The Food Security Coordinator reports to the Food Security Programme Development Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Line management of Food Security project field staff
  • Contribute to Food Security strategy development, project proposals and provide input on needs and gaps
  • Manage and implement delegated portfolio of Food Security projects (activities, budget and project documentation) as delegated from Project Manager in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality
  • Provide regular progress reports to Project Manager (Area Manager and Core Competencies if no Project Manager)
  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
  • Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
  • Develop and manage project budget, as delegated from Project Manager
  • Visit on a regular basis the area of implementation and check the quality of the ongoing and completed works, make correction and provide relevant recommendations.
  • In collaboration with the Food Security Project Manager and Area Manager, play a key role in recruiting Food Security field staff
  • In coordination with the Food Security Project Manager, represent NRC in coordination meetings with local authorities and NGOs when required

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Experience from working as a Food Security Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • At least 2 years proven experience in Cash/ voucher transfers, Income Generation Activities and Backyard Vegetable Gardening
  • Experience in proposal development
  • Experience in report writing
  • Able to speak fluent Kanuri and Hausa language
  • Knowledge of the context in Nigeria
  • Ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision

  • Contribute to organisational learning through supporting specific analysis, lessons learned and reports;
  • Contribute to the design of M&E resourcing, including collaboration with programme staff to identify and plan for Monitoring and Evaluation needs.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of M&E systems, including M&E tools.
  • Participate in programme design and proposal discussions, including theory of change development, and log frame design.
  • Development of case studies to capture qualitative outputs of the project
  • Work with Programme staff to design and adopt reporting formats required by the NRC system (GORS).

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Experience from working as a Project Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience from working in a humanitarian/recovery context with at least 1 year in Monitoring & Evaluation
  • Degree or Higher Diploma in a relevant field such as Statistics, Applied science, Development studies
  • Experience with surveys, studies, data entry, management and analysis is a must.

Since 2009, violent attacks on civilians by the armed group Boko Haram have left widespread devastation in northeast Nigeria. At least 17,000 people have been killed and approximately two million people are displaced within Nigeria. More than 14 million people in northeast Nigeria today are affected by the crisis caused by Boko Haram. Out of these, seven million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. Around 92 per cent of displaced people reside in either informal settlements or with low-income host communities, creating a strain on already limited resources. The remaining 8 per cent live in more formalised camps. NRC has been in Nigeria since 2015.

The purpose of the ICLA Programme Development Manager position is to mentor and build capacity of staff in the ICLA team as well as manage the programme portfolio in Borno State.

The ICLA Programme Development Manager (PDM) reports to the Area Manager in Maiduguri.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

  • The Advocacy Manager provides overall leadership, management and strategic direction to NRC’s policy and advocacy work in Nigeria.

Job Description

  • Identify and coordinate NRC’s advocacy response to prioritised protection issues both within the country and internationally
  • Develop and implement country-specific advocacy strategy, aligned to overall country strategy

  • Ensure advocacy coherence and reinforce effective synergies between programmes and advocacy by working closely with programme staff to integrate advocacy into programme planning and implementation.
