The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigerian for the position below at the Institute’s guesthouse in Lagos: 

Job Title: Ticketing/Administrative Assistant 

Ref: IITA-HR-NRS2018-003
Location: Lagos
Recruitment Type: National (3-year renewable contract)

Duties
Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

  • Handle air tickets and reservations for clients;
  • Give advice on the best and most economical reservation options;
  • Ensure prompt and excellent customer service to IITA travelers;
  • Liaise with corporate airlines and travel partners for issuance of tickets;
  • Perform all necessary administrative formalities;
  • Prepare weekly accounts report in absence of the administrative officer;
  • Perform any other duties that maybe assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • OND in any related discipline with air travel certification and training. He/she must possess a minimum of three (3) years’ related experience in a structured work environment.

Competencies:

  • Be proficiency in use of GDS, especially on Amadeus, Galileo and Sabre.

Job Title: Resident Manager, Hospitality and Travel Services

Position Profile

  • The position requires a dynamic and energetic individual who leads by example. A manager who can balance the official needs of the Institutes (workshops, conferences and visitors) with those of the multi-cultural resident community (staff with their families) and national staff while marketing its service to fellow organizations to maintain a zero budget.
  • Ideally with a strong food and beverage background, the successful individual would be looking for a challenge a little different than the mainstream hotel and hospitality industry.
  • A demanding and challenging task that can be incredibly rewarding for the right candidate.
  • There would be an initial period of training and integration with the current manger prior to taking full responsibility for the operation.

Responsibilities
This position reports to the Deputy Director General-Corporate Services. The tasks are as follows:

  • Manage I-House, Ikeja Guest House, Abuja Guest House, Sports centre, all to international standards.
  • Manage bookings and the use of the IITA Ibadan Conference Centre.
  • Oversee canteen operations for 1500 national staff.
  • Oversee Travel Services.
  • Continue to enhance revenue generation through effective use of Hospitality and Travel Service facilities.
  • Ensure effective cost recovery of all operations, and meet the set zero budget targets.
  • Provide continuous staff training and good customer care.
  • Lead, recruit, develop and retain staff to deliver services in the most efficient and effective manner.
  • Plan and manage new acquisitions, maintenance and upgrade of facilities of all IITA guest houses as required.
  • Initiate energy saving methods.
  • Ensure delivery of effective client focused services.
  • Give professional support to leisure activities on the Ibadan compound and organize social events to enhance the quality of social life on IITA campus.
  • Develop and market the hospitality operation of the new environmental educational campsite.
  • Carry out any other duties as may be assigned by management.

Educational Qualifications

  • The candidate should have a post graduate college diploma or degree in Hospitality, Hotel Management or related field. Any related advanced degree will be an added advantage.

Core Competencies:

  • Minimum of 5 years proven experience in the hospitality business
  • Understanding of all hotel management best practices and relevant laws and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of international travel regulations, customs and currencies.
  • Solid understanding of hospitality procedure and best practices.
  • Excellent analytical mind with strong business acumen.
  • Ability to balance customer and business priorities.
  • Knowledge of quality standards (e.g. ISO).
  • Demonstrable aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Reliable with ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Outstanding communication (oral and written) and good negotiation skills.
  • Excellent hands-on experience in customer service or sales management skills.
  • Good interpersonal, excellent leadership, people management and organizational skills.
  • Numeracy and logistical planning skills. Great attention to details.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural environment.
  • Work experience in the hospitality and travel business in Africa is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and relevant software (e-g. ERP); knowledge of hotel management software (PMS) is an advantage.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages is a plus.

General information

  • The contract will be for an initial period of three years with possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funding. IITA offers internationally competitive remuneration package paid in U.S. Dollars and housing (depending on the family situation and availability) on its Ibadan Campus.

Job Title: Asset Supervisor

Duties
Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:

  • Maintain liaison with Assets Officer to update IITA’s master asset file;
  • Explore more effective ways of asset tracking including a computerized bar-coding system and implement this as directed;
  • Conduct regular housekeeping and cyclic asset verification exercise at the headquarters and if necessary in other stations to ensure that IITA tracked asset listing agrees with the Finance Office master asset file record;
  • Analyze and evaluate cost/benefits of disposal strategies and make recommendation to the disposal committee on appropriate disposal method for such items as applicable.
  • Prepare records of asset identified for disposal and ensure clearance of such materials;
  • Secure storage of assets identified for disposal, repair and reuse as applicable;
  • Assist in asset disposal process and decommissioning activities as directed by the IITA disposal committee;
  • Assist with the transfer of ownership of used assets where such requirement exist while ensuring the master asset list is updated;
  • Ensure healthy, safety rules and regulation at work are complied with;
  • Inducting newly recruited staff and assist in training Oracle users both HQ and other Hub-station staff members
  • Perform all other related duties that may be assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

  • B.Sc/HND Purchasing and Supply, Social Science or Professional Certification in Procurement and Supply or related field with minimum of eight (8) years’ experience performing similar role.

Job Title: CKAN Repository Officer and Programmer

  • Plan, develop and conduct implementation of python based GeoNode that fits into the IITA data infrastructure and information landscape;
  • Further develop workflows for upload, download, harvesting data on CKAN and connection with databases/platforms, especially SharePoint;
  • Implement customizations and maintenance of CKAN, GeoNode.
  • Programming links and API development to other Open Access repositories;
  • Be responsible for server administration and repair (CKAN and GeoNode);
  • Serve as collection point of all IITA research output data/metadata (CKAN);
  • Cataloguing and check of metadata;
  • Check uniqueness of dataset;
  • Assessing need and conducting of a file conversion
  • Filling of missing metadata for CKAN;
  • Assessing need/usefulness/ability to present the data in a “eye catching” format (map, chart, diagram etc.);
  • Give persistent identifier (CKAN);
  • Inform interested data users;
  • Managing content of legacy data for CKAN;

Job Title: Head, TAAT Program Management Unit 

Ref: DDG-R4D/TAAT/PMU/01/18
Location: Ibadan, Oyo

Main Responsibility

  • Lead in the implementation of fiduciary, administrative and reporting activities of the Technologies for Africa Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) Program.

Specific Duties:

  • Oversee the day-to-day implementation of all program administrative activities undertaken within the Program Management Unit.
  • In close collaboration and in liaison with the Head of the Program Clearinghouse, ensure that program work plans and budgets are prepared and submitted for review and approvals within agreed deadlines.
  • Organize the timely transfer of program resources to the various institutions leading the Commodity value chains and Enablers.
  • Coordinate the compilation and review of quarterly and annual technical and financial reports from value chains and Enablers, for timely submission to the Bank.
  • Prepare and organize periodic program audits by internal and external auditors and ensure that the reports are compiled and submitted to the Bank on time.
  • Elaborate an administrative and financial management manual/template of procedures and processes and ensure its full implementation across the value chains and enablers.
  • Ensure that funding eligibility criteria such as the establishment of special bank accounts are followed by the implementing institutions/partners and these institutions/partners accurately and timely account for fund utilization.
  • Review the performance of program management unit staff and make contract renewal or non-renewal recommendations.
  • Ensure that program procurement is efficiently undertaken and in accordance with Bank rules or institutional procedures where applicable.
  • Coordinate all program activities including procurement, financial management, special studies, mid-term and project completion reviews.
  • Organize all TAAT stakeholder technical meetings and workshops and liaise with Value Chain Leaders to ensure the presentation and publication of results and outcomes.
  • Undertake any other program-related task assigned by the Director General of IITA or his designated representative.

Educational Qualifications and Experience

  • An advanced Postgraduate degree preferably at the PhD level in Agriculture or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years project management experience; 5 of which are in an African setting.

Core Competencies:

  • Proven skills in successful project coordination and management; Experience in the management of an AfDB project will be a clear advantage
  • Demonstrated success in working with multi-disciplinary teams and partnerships in a cross- cultural environment;
  • Excellent social skills, including a collaborative style, proactive and innovative attitudes;
  • Good experience of collaboration with NARS scientists, private partners and other stakeholders across Africa;
  • Good planning and organizing capacity; and demonstrated ability to pay attention to details.
