Job Title: Logistics Assistant

  • The crisis in Nigeria, located mainly around the Lake Chad Basin, is a complex emergency characterized by food insecurity, violence and displacement. Furthermore, subsistence based livelihoods are impacted upon by climate-induced desertification, drought, receding lake/water stress.
  • The FAO Lake Chad Strategy 2017-2019 includes ensuring sustainable and equitable access to resources and services as well as sustainable improvement of livelihood opportunities are therefore critical priorities.
  • FAO in collaboration with UNWOMEN and WFP has received support from the European Development Fund (EDF) under the EU Support to Response, Recovery and Resilience in Borno State, to implement a 3-year programme to restore and improve sustainable agriculture-based livelihoods for food security, employment, and nutrition improvement in Borno State. FAO’s interventions include supporting smallholder farmers (especially youth) to have diversified food source and income by enhancing nutrition sensitive value chain development for aquaculture.

Reporting Lines:

  • The logistics assistant reports to the DFAOR through the International Logistics Officer in Maiduguri.

Technical Focus

  • To strengthen its North East Logistics team, FAO requires the services of a logistics assistant. In particular he/she will be responsible for coordinating the warehouse activities. He / She will coordinate Program inputs receipts / deliveries with Program Assistant / Associates.

Tasks and Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision and guidance of the FAO Representative for Nigeria through the Deputy FAOR in Maiduguri, and with direct supervision of the international Logistics Officer, in close collaboration with national and international consultants in the Program team, the incumbent will undertake the following activities:

  • Provide daily support to the warehouse staff in consolidating and disseminating periodic reports (daily, weekly, monthly inventories)
  • Provide support to Sub – Offices warehouse in their reporting efforts and report any challenges
  • Provide support to Program assistant in post distributions consolidation activities
  • Provide support to the drivers and to the office assistant / fuel in vehicles and generators fuel reporting
  • Provide daily support to the maintenance team and ensure efficient waste management in the office compound
  • Perform inventory controls and keep quality standards high for audits
  • Support the preparation of travel authorisation and logistic arrangement of the personnel
  • Prepare and complete orders for delivery or pickup according to schedule
  • Contribute to the selection of logistics and maintenance services providers
  • Keep a clean and safe working environment and optimise space utilisation

Minimum Requirements
Candidates Will Be Assessed Against The Following:

  • For effective field management of project implementation, FAO requires the services of an irrigation expert. In particular, he/she will be responsible for ensuring the technical soundness and timeliness of activities in his field of competencies in the design, planning, supervision of the implementation and monitoring phases of small-scale irrigation development and related activities of the project.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Under the overall supervision and guidance of the FAO Representative in Nigeria through the Deputy FAOR in Maiduguri, and with direct supervision of the Project Coordinator in close collaboration with national and international consultants in the project team, the incumbent will undertake the following activities:
  • Provide technical, programmatic and operational support for the implementation of the irrigation component of the project
  • Contribute to needs assessments and analysis in selected LGAs for the development of small scale irrigation scheme

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Under the overall supervision and guidance of the FAO Representative in Nigeria through the Deputy FAOR in Maiduguri, and with direct supervision of the Project Coordinator in close collaboration with national and international consultants in the project team, the incumbent will undertake the following activities:
  • Support the communication and visibility of EU-funded project to restore livelihoods in Borno State, mapping programmatic achievements and success stories throughout the implementation of the project (2018-2021).
  • Support the expansion of FAO Nigeria’s media database and strengthen engagement of local media and international correspondents based in Nigeria.
  • Coordinate the finalization of reports, briefs and other publications in collaboration with the international communication and reporting officer and technical focal points.
  • Contribute to the layout, design and editing of content, including video, the FAO northeast Nigeria bulletin, infographics, one pagers and other audio-visual content to be developed on demand.
  • Draft articles, social media content, media messages and speeches for the FAO Nigeria and FAO in Emergencies websites and Social Media.
  • Contribute to the Access database to track and analyse media coverage of FAO’s northeastern response.

Minimum Requirements
