Job Title: Telecoms Tower / Structural Design Engineer
Purpose:
Responsible for supporting the Engineering / Operations team in maintaining the structural integrity of the customer’s tower portfolio. This is a contract employment role.
Job Functions:
Perform structural analysis on existing tower structures / communication structures to determine their structural capacity.
Perform structural analysis / review of existing antenna mounts / antenna supporting structures to determine their capacity.
Perform structural calculations on foundations for tower structures / communication structures to determine their capacity
Perform seismic calculations on existing tower structures / communication structures to determine is the seismic loading or wind loading governs
Design tower modifications to reinforce tower structures if the loading parameters produce areas of overstressing. Coordinate the design with drafting to produce accurate detail drawings for bidding and construction purposes.
Analyze existing antenna mounts to determine their ability to support the proposed loading
Write professional engineering analysis, construction reports and review peer reports. Reports to be used by city, county, and state jurisdictions for permitting.
Stay current with the standard changes effecting the tower and communication structures industry and as tenants and clients change and modify their loadings
Coordinate with outside consulting firms, tower crews both verbally and in writing when necessary to make sure projected dates of field work is completed on time
Utilize the company’s work flow process to communicate engineering analysis results to operations and leasing teams
Assist with the tower defect review process during acquisition process of new towers
Assist the tower repair and maintenance process on an ongoing basis
Provide input and think creatively to help improve efficiency on how the engineering department is performing various tasks
Qualifications:
Three-year degree with emphasis in Telecom Tower / structural engineering
Two years of experience in the Telecoms tower industry preferred but not mandatory
Knowledge in MS Tower, Staad Pro, AutoCAD, L-Pile and other software a plus.
Knowledge with the various building codes and standards, IBC, TIA Rev G, ACI, ASCE – 7
Demonstrate the ability to multi-task and prioritize efficiently
Effective in an entrepreneurial culture, working independently and as part of a team
