Reps Seek End to Age Discrimination in Nigeria Recruitment

Members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a bill for an Act to eradicate the age discrimination against jobseekers in the Federal Government Agencies; and for related matters.

In his lead debate, Ogun explained that the bill seeks to ensure that no Nigerian job seeker is disqualified on regards of age.

The lawmaker stated that this would be a key responsibility of Parliamentarians as representatives of the people. He also stated that this is with a view to ensure the human rights of the job seekers are not trampled upon and to significantly reduce the amount of unemployed individuals in the society.
While stressing that the bill mainly aims at ensuring compliance by Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), he expressed optimism that Employers in the Organised Private Sector would follow suit afterwards.
