The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos is seeking to employ a suitable and qualified candidate for the position below:

Job Title: Boat Pilot (SPEAR Boat Pilot)

Summary

  • The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (48 hours per week)
  • Start Date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (6 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Duties

  • The incumbent serves as a Boat Pilot for the Regional Security Office responsible for navigating boats with outboard motors in and around the Lagos waterways
  • S/he is expected to perform basic preventive maintenance, checks and inspection of the boat, engines, and basic emergency equipment such as fire extinguisher, radios and horn
  • The boat pilot position is expected to work 48 hours per week
  • Direct supervision and daily work guidance is provided by the SPEAR Logistics Coordinator.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Education Requirements:

  • Completion of Primary School

Experience:

  • Three years of professional experience in boat operation along the Lagos coast, and near off-shore waters is required.

Job Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of outboard motor operation and maintenance, as well as knowledge of Lagos, the Lagoon, Creeks, and near off-shore waters is required.

Evaluations:

  • This may be tested.

Language:

  • Level II (Limited Knowledge) speaking/writing/reading English is required
  • Level III (Good working Knowledge) speaking/reading Yoruba/Igbo/Hausa is required.

Skill and Abilities:

  • Must have skill and abilities in boat handling, first and second boat maintenance procedures, outboard motor maintenance, boat instrument reading, refueling procedures, boat safety operations, inshore and offshore navigation.  Ability to swim in the event of a water-based accident
  • Must have a current and valid boat piloting license.

Agency Benefits:

  • Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Lagos, Nigeria may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
  • For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
  • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

Hiring Preference Selection Process:
