Stakeholder Democracy Network is an International non-governmental organization that helps facilitate community development from a rights-based perspective. SDN operates in the Niger Delta where it helps the communities affected by oil exploitation and the challenges of resource curse. SDN has five pillar issues that represent significant long held grievances and acute problems that we are trying to resolve. These are: Access to Energy, Democratisation, Environment, Resilient Communities, and Resource Governance.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Project Officer

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Details

Job Purpose

  • To participate in the implementation of SDN projects in accordance with donor requirements and SDN’s Programme Strategy and Objectives. The Project Officer reports to the Senior Project Officer.

Duties
Programme Implementation:

  • Assist the process of planning, development and implementation of the project
  • Assist the development and implementation of research and data collection processes
  • Assist the analysis, review and final output process for all project reporting
  • Assist in organising and facilitating dialogue meetings, workshops and seminars with government representatives, civil society and other relevant project stakeholders
  • Assist in monthly internal reporting and the presentation to management

Programme Administration:

  • Lead the execution of day-to-day activities for projects
  • Lead the documentation process for internal and external reporting and record keeping
  • Work with the project logical framework and theory of change to ensure activities are implemented effectively.
  • Use the project monitoring and evaluation framework to monitor activities, and evaluate their impact as it relates to project outcomes.
  • Analyse project documents, field research and implementation reports and generate summaries of interventions

External Relations and Communications:

  • Support SDN to build relationships that are key to promoting stability and development in the Niger Delta
  • Support the facilitation of regular communication and networking with local partners, local and national institutions and external actors
  • Support to the SDN external communications process by contributing to articles for the website and email distribution

Research Briefs:

  • Lead on identifying research areas related to security and governance, and developing research methodologies.
  • Review research and produce final drafts of publications.
  • Generate research briefs in a short period on key issues identified.

Key Qualifications
Assessment of candidates will be based on proven experience and capacity with evidence of the following or equivalent experience as follows:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or related field. A Master’s Degree in a similar field is desirable.
  • At least 2 years work experience in a similar position is essential
  • Knowledge of the political and socio-economic dynamics in the Niger Delta region is essential,
  • Excellent IT skills: word, excel and online communication skills;
  • Strong oral and written communications skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, as well as the ability to build and conduct effective professional working relationships at all levels, both internally and externally.

We are looking for candidates with skills in one or more of the following areas:

  • Project management
  • Advocacy and campaigning
  • Community engagement, mediation and dialogue
  • Research and analysis
  • Capacity building (training and facilitation)
  • Social accountability approaches.

And with technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas, preferably in the context of the Niger Delta:

  • Protection of the environment
  • Promoting good governance
  • Promoting peace and ensuring human security
  • Developing livelihoods and promoting economic diversification
  • Increasing access to (clean) energy
  • Analysing the actions and policy of government and the oil and gas industry.

Remuneration
Gross salary – NGN150,000 -190,000 monthly

Job Title: Senior Project Officer

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Job Purpose

  • To lead on the implementation of projects using SDN’s Project Management system that is designed to ensure that projects are effectively executed in accordance with donor requirements and SDN’s Programme Strategy and Operational Plans.
  • The Senior Project Officer (s) reports to the Assistant Programme Manager.

  • External Relations and Communications 10%
  • Fundraising 10%

Duties
Strategy and Programme Development:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of SDN’s mission and vision in the Niger Delta
  • Assist with regular analysis of political and security developments and themes in the Niger Delta
  • Contribute to develop and deepen SDN’s understanding of its focus areas and methods
  • Contribute to internal and external discussions on stability and development in the Niger Delta
  • Programme Implementation:
  • Lead the process of planning, development and implementation of projects
  • Lead the development and implementation of research and data collection processes
  • Lead the analysis, review and final output process for all project reporting
  • Produce monthly internal reporting and present to management
  • Lead in organising and facilitating dialogue meetings, workshops and seminars with government representatives, civil society and other relevant project stakeholders
  • Deliver insightful project communications that feed the SDN external communications process
  • Take full ownership and responsibility for one of SDN’s functional pillars
  • External Relations and Communications:
  • Identify, build and leverage relationships that are key to promoting stability and development in the Niger Delta
  • Hold regular communication and networking with local partners, local and national institutions and external actors.
  • Contribute in developing appropriate strategies for advocacy with key SDN partners
  • Contribute to the SDN external communications process by writing articles for the website and email distribution
  • Design and implement project communications plans that feed the SDN external communications process

Fundraising:

  • Identify and develop sources of funding that will complement SDN’s strategy and projects within the Niger Delta
  • Lead the funding application process from the initial development of concepts notes to full application submission

Key Qualifications
Assessment of candidates will be based on proven experience and capacity with evidence of the following or equivalent experience as follows:

  • Post graduate degree in Social Sciences or related field
  • At least 3- 5 years’ experience in project management in the development sector is essential.
  • Donor reporting experience
  • Experience of managing teams delivering projects, a collaborative approach to team working and ability to coach and build the skills of team members
  • A proven track record of managing projects and/or project teams to deliver high quality projects which have resulted in positive outcomes for their target beneficiaries
  • Proven ability to negotiate multiple relationships with various stakeholders and local partners
  • Demonstrated planning (including budgeting) and proposal writing skills
  • General knowledge of the political and socio-economic dynamics in the Niger Delta region is essential.

  • Strong oral and written communications skills;
