Job Title: Customs Brokerage Operations Coordinator

Location: Lagos

Job Description

  • KPI’s (This isn’t the JD, this is the KPI’s of which you’ll be gauged against by Q1 2020 Review)
  • The successful candidate would support the existing team and Successfully design and structure customs brokerage/ flow process from warehousing across Nigeria to finalizing and closing transactions and sending clients OBL.
  • Have a clear understanding of the process and regulations around the export of the following agro-allied products:
  • Agro-allied. Such as:
    • Cocoa
    • Sesame Seeds
    • Rubber
    • Cashew Nuts
    • Finished agro products
  • Raw Materials:
    • Wood
    • Scrap Metal
  • Solid Minerals:
    • Manganese
    • Iron Ore
    • Lead
    • Charcoal
  • Ensure all shipments transactions (export) are properly closed
  • Design a training programme to ensure team members and Key Account Managers (KAM’s)/Sales staff are properly trained with technical understanding and to be able to win new business.
  • A clear understanding of regulations and systems to ensure OnePort 365 is compliant with regulations and processes across all shipments
  • Build a good relationship with regulators involved in the export process. NCS, Quarantine, Cobalt (Pre-shipment inspectors), SGS, amongst others.
  • Support the client success team in regards to the definite delivery of the team’s sales targets

Job Details

  • The candidate will have advanced knowledge of entry writing, ability to classify according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedules (HTS), participating government agencies clearances (PGA), and Customs Regulations gained by 3 or more years of experience working for a Customs Broker.
  • This position requires the ability to manage several accounts while providing excellent customer service, accurate and timely submission of documentation
  • Coordinate freight delivery to designated locations.
  • Review rates, trace product movement, file entries with Customs; clarification and valuation of merchandise.
  • Constantly work with senior partners towards Process Improvement across the value chain. The key driver should be, “how do I improve my workflow process daily”?
  • Administrative responsibilities include preparation of reports/presentations and analysis using various software packages and databases.
  • Document review and assessment of accuracy, verifying the country of origin/export, IOR, terms of sale and value to ensure that compliance and federal regulation requirements are achieved.
  • Daily follow up on documentation discrepancy issues which requires the ability to troubleshoot and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with customers and foreign origins.
  • Establish and maintain client relationships.
  • Generally works in a lead capacity by providing guidance to other employees in regards to customs brokerage processes.
  • Duties include but are not limited to the preparation of customs entries and forwarding freight to designated locations. This may involve interface with international and domestic carriers, overseas offices, and importers.
  • Prepare Customs entries and follow-up with the clearance process on all entries prepared.
  • Communicate documentation discrepancies to clients and Implementations Partner or Customer Success Partner.
  • Judgment and independent initiative are required to identify, adapt and apply approaches to solve problems and to interpret policy.
  • All other tasks as assigned by the supervisor. You’ll report directly to the Implementations Partner (CEO) until a FT Operations Partner is hired by Q1 2020.
  • Position may require a weekend schedule on a department rotation basis

The Ideal Candidate

  • Preferably, previous experience in a top name known agency/freight forwarder or having worked with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). This is preferred but not a must
  • MUST Have experience in the freight forwarding sector (especially exports)
  • Minimum of a B.Sc/HND
  • Great leadership and mentoring skills
  • Great communication and presentation skills
  • Problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to have a holistic view and make the most effective initiative
  • Great attention to details and ability to priorities daily duties with little or no supervision.
