We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Livelihoods Assistant-Nutrition

Location: Ngala, Borno

About the Job

  • The Food Security Nutrition Assistant is responsible to assist the Food Security Nutrition Officer in the implementation of DRC Nutrition activities within the scope WFP programme in Bama and Ngala, Borno State.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Assist or take lead in all the Nutrition activities including nutrition screening and distribution.
  • Facilitate community mobilization, meetings and training during community led Nutrition activities and training of CNMs and SBCC facilitators.
  • Assist in Planning, supervising and monitoring training, awareness and sensitisation activities, including maintenance and verification of all supporting documentation and activities (e.g. pre- and post-tests).
  • Work closely with community structures to follow up on the implementation of the Infant Young Child Feeding (IYCF) activities, cooking demonstration and complementary feeding with the support from the Nutrition officer/Team Leader
  • Assist in maintaining records of all activities, in order to complete timely reports for DRC and for external actors, including donors.
  • Support in the design and implementing a detailed work plan for the Nutrition team at the project site level activities in collaboration with Nutrition officer/Team Leader, which will include all aspects of the program.
  • Plan, coordinate and monitor all nutrition-related activities, including screening, referrals and follow up.
  • Assist the Nutrition Officer in the project documentation.
  • Promote the rights of displaced people and affected populations, and explore and assess new and better ways to provide timely, effective and appropriate assistance in a way that promotes rights and dignity.
  • Assist in gap analysis, needs assessment, conducting registration, receiving commodities and distributing to beneficiaries in locations adversely affected by the conflict.
  • Ensuring quality MUAC screening takes place at all team registrations: children are accurately recorded in terms of their nutrition status;
  • Assist in Ensuring appropriate implementation of Blanket Supplementary Feeding Programme (BSFP) for children 6- 59 months and the Pregnant and Lactating Women
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to DRC and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
  • And any other duties assigned to him/her by the Line Manager

  • Experience with carrying out assessments, nutrition case management, monitoring and evaluation required.
  • Past Experience in CMAM and IYCF
  • Commitment to renewing and maintaining knowledge of best practices
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Demonstrated strengths in analytical skills, monitoring and evaluation, and report writing

Desirable:

  • Strong interpersonal, intercultural and communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Fluency in English and Hausa; fluency in other languages spoken in Borno will be a plus.

Job Title: Safety Officer

Location: Mubi, Adamawa
Contract type: National contract

The Position

  • The Safety Officer serves as the focal person for staff safety and security in the office and in field locations.
  • Supports the preparation of field travel authorisations and maintenance of staff information.
  • Works within the safety procedures of DRC, municipal policies and procedures and in compliance with all national acts and legislation.
  • The safety Officer will support the Area Manager in managing staff safety and security in Mubi.

Responsibilities
Overall purpose of the role:

  • The role is responsible for supporting the day to day oversight of DRC staff movements and ensuring that key information relevant to staff safety and security is disseminated. Advisories, Alerts and Reports to disseminate to all staff.
  • Administrative and Safety operational tasks that support the day to day running of the Safety Unit’s Operations.
  • The Safety Officer will maintain a high level of contextual awareness and strong coordination with Program and Program support teams at the field level.
  • The Safety Officer will report directly to the Area Manger with Technical support from Safety Coordinator and will be an integral part of DRC’s Safety Unit.

Responsibilities
Staff movement oversight and support:

  • Travel Security Clearances: Prior to any movement complete all security briefings for staff traveling to high risk field locations. Ensure that established movement tracking protocols are adhered to by both the Safety Unit and all DRC staff.
  • Field movement tracking: Coordinate with logistics staff when directed to support Field level movement oversight and support.
  • Ensure that appropriate access controls are in place for all DRC facilities
  • Conduct site assessments and advise on mitigation measures, as required

Security incidents and data management:

  • SMS Advisories: Draft and disseminate as required SMS alert advisories for DRC staff in the Safety Forum Whatsapp group when relevant and significant security incidents occur or elevated threat levels are reported
  • Email Advisories: Draft and disseminate detailed Email advisories for DRC staff when relevant and significant security incidents occur or elevated threat levels are reported.

Administrative and Operational support:

  • Guard force management: Management of the guard force through ensuring standards of readiness are maintained, guard protocols adhered to and coordination with the guard force supervisors is routinely conducted.Ensure that guard payments and other administrative matters that have a direct impact on guard force readiness are completed in a timely manner. Ensuring that the contracted guard force maintains a high standard of guarding for all DRC offices and residences, and when required take corrective action in coordination with the Guard force management
  • Asset management: Maintain the Safety Unit’s current asset register and oversight on all assets that are both utilized and stored (Thuraya phones, radio, etc).Coordinate with the DRC Logistics and Procurement department to ensure that the overall DRC asset register reflects the Safety Unit’s current asset register.
  • Daily-Weekly and Monthly Security Briefing: Responsible for compiling daily, weekly and monthly report for Safety Unit.
  • Staff briefings: Provide DRC staff with current contextual briefings.

Support to International Visitors:

  • Visitor arrival packet compilation: Compile a current visitor arrival packet as directed. Responsible for maintaining the international visitor orientation record.
  • Visitor briefings and orientation: Conducting visitor briefings and orientation on DRC safety systems, and briefing on emergency procedures, and safe rooms etc.
  • Carry out any additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned by Safety Coordinator.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to Humanitarian Work or Risk Management
  • 3 years of working experience with NGOs, other international agencies or multinational business
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Stable, moral and robust character and a good team-player
  • Excellent communication skills, calm and a good sense of humour
  • Proven commitment to accountability practices
  • Strong information technology skills.

Desirable:

  • Competent and literate in English, verbal and written, with a sound knowledge of technical expressions.
  • Demonstrative experience in INGO/NGO or UN field (operations) with experience of safety and security.
  • Knowledge of Hausa – an asset

Salary and Conditions

  • In accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment;
  • The income will be subject to statutory deductions as per applicable Nigeria laws. The employee is responsible for the tax returns.
