Street Child is a UK charity working to protect vulnerable children and improve access to education in some of the poorest communities in the world. We work in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nepal and since November 2016, Street Child has been involved in the Humanitarian response in North East Nigeria.
Street Child works in the fields of education, child protection and livelihoods, working to deliver sustainable solutions and create maximum impact. Our work combines counselling, family mediation, business support, school building, teacher training and child protection. We were a key player in the Ebola crisis and led the global response for children orphaned by Ebola in Sierra Leone and Liberia. We deliver all our programmes through local partners and, since 2008, together we have built/renovated over 200 schools and are now helping to educate over 40,000 young people.

Job Title: Clinical Psychologist
Location: Maiduguri, Borno State with travel across Borno, Adamawa and Yobe
Reports to: Nigeria Child Protection Programme Manager
Contract duration: 6 Months, Full-time Position
Operational / Context Role
- Street Child is looking for a dedicated Clinic Psychologist for our various Child Protection programme in North East Nigeria, in partnership with national NGOs.
- Our planned programme will include provision of psychosocial support to children in need, case management for children at risk, family tracing and reunification and livelihoods support for the most vulnerable caregivers.
- The main responsibility of the Clinic Psychologist will be to support the Programme Manager in the implementation of the North-East Nigeria programme.
- The role will involve overseeing the Child Protection Partners’ staff team in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, providing the best options for the child’s interest during case management of children at risk.
Key Responsibilities
General:
- Providing specialize mental health services to vulnerable children
- Conduct individual and group psychotherapy regarding problems such as depression, stress, abuse, sexual violence and family situations in order to modify behavior and /or to improve personal, social and emotional adjustment of children
- Develop and implement individual and group treatment plans
- Evaluate the effectiveness of counselling or treatments, and the accuracy and completeness of diagnoses, then modify plans and diagnoses as necessary.
- Consults with other professionals, regarding evaluation and treatment
- Provide psychological assessment, testing and evaluation, referral, and consultation
- Collaborate and cooperate in a professional manner with co-workers, implementing partners, other departments and other agencies in order to assure effective continuity of care and services.
- Prepare and maintain mental health notes and narrative reports of mental health activities (in the appropriate charting format) following the policies of records and maintenance of client confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
Reporting:
- Keep the Child Protection Programme Manager informed on the activities of the project by providing relevant correspondence, reports and meeting minutes as well as making regular updates.
- Responsible for prompt submission of all reports to the Child Protection Program Manager.
- Work closely with implementing partners to prepare and submit reports on approved frequency to the Programme Manager.
Networking:
- Responsible for co-ordination and liaising between Street Child and local partners/other agencies/local government/local communities/displaced community, as regards to Street Child’s Child Protection programme in conjunction with the Program Manager.
- Represent Street Child at the stakeholders meeting as necessary e.g. Child Protection Working Group Meeting, Gender Based Violence Working Group Meeting.

- The main responsibility of the FTR Officer will be to support the Programme Manager in the implementation of the North-East Nigeria programme.
- The role will involve overseeing the Child Protection Partners’ staff team in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, providing the best options for the child’s interest during case management of children at risk.
Key Responsibilities
General:
- Coordinate project activities in collaboration with the Child Protection Programme Officers and in liaison with implementing partners, communities, government and child protection agencies working;
- Coordinate Needs Assessment for the child protection programme and the preparation of reports in collaboration with the Child Protection Programme Officer and the implementing partners;
- Assist caseworkers at field level in best practice of identification, documentation, tracing, reunification, follow ups and interim family-based care services to unaccompanied, separated and missing children as well as supporting caregivers.
- Coordinate with the Case workers and other relevant technical sectors, to ensure a rapid, proportionate and effective response;
- Conduct weekly meeting with caseworkers to review case progress and ensure data entry is completed accurately and verified;
- Work closely with implementing partners by designing and overseeing the implementation of capacity building programs, including support with CPIMS;
- Introduce case files and follow up report at coordination level with other Child Protection Strategic Work Groups;
- Willingness to travel / be in the field regularly.
