The Confederation of African Football (CAF) was founded in 1957 by four nations: Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and South Africa. As the administrative body of the region, CAF manages competitions, offers technical and administrative training courses while actively fostering the promotion and practice of football. The Confederation organizes championships such as the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN or AFCON), the most popular competition. It maintains very close links with FIFA in coordinating tournaments for different events such as the World Cup, Youth and Women competitions and the Olympic Games Football Tournaments.

Job Title: Legal Counsel (Commercial)

Location: Africa

Job Description
Legal Counsel (Commercial) who can contribute to CAF’s overall success by effectively managing the following duties:

  • Draft and conduct further legal assistance in negotiation & interpretation of broad range of agreements, including sponsoring, licensing, service provider, Bidding & Hosting and IP-related agreements
  • Assist with the CAF Rights Protection Programme in relation to CAF Events
  • Support in General legal services
  • Assist in the continuous development of CAF Marketing Regulations
  • Handle and monitor international commercial litigation

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law
  • Master’s Degree in Law is an asset
  • Preferably 1 to 2 years expertise in commercial legal practice “on the job” in the sports rights industry, on in-house legal department or a reputable law firm engaged in sponsoring and licensing rights
  • Professional experience of working and drafting legal documents, in particular contracts in English and French languages
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Ability to transfer profound legal knowledge into commercially oriented solutions
  • Good communication & negotiation skills
  • Service and solution orientated personality with keen perception of legal, commercial / marketing and policy related implications.

Job Title: Compliance & Regulatory Counsel

We are currently looking for the following player to join our team:

  • Compliance & Regulatory Counsel who can contribute to CAF’s overall success by effectively managing the following duties:
  • Ensure the development and implementation of CAF’s compliance program (evaluate training needs and training team, develop and implement
  • Monitoring and screening programs, identify areas of improvement and recommend mitigating actions)
  • Evaluate and support/challenge effectiveness of controls and adherence to compliance program components and provide advice and counsel as needed
  • Review current policies and procedures within CAF for alignment, consolidation, and harmonization with division needs
  • Develop compliance training programs and deliver specialized training as appropriate
  • Perform Governance Workshops to raise awareness of compliance issues
  • Raise awareness of compliance risks and continuous monitoring
  • Manage forensic reviews to disclose mismanagement of CAF funds

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration or Law
  • Familiar with key compliance program components, such as Compliance risk assessment, due diligence, training and policy implementation
  • 5+ years of experience in compliance or related field (risk management or advisory experience, audit, finance or legal) with understanding of structure and
  • needs of an effective compliance programs
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Professional experience in an international environment
  • Experience in preparing explanatory documents or compliance reports and presenting to senior executive team members
  • Strong ability to navigate organizationally across multiple functional areas providing work direction on risk activities and governance processes
  • Ability to translate complex regulatory information into compelling stakeholder-friendly language, including the importance of regulatory compliance

Job Title: HR & Services Director

Location: Africa

Details
HR & Services Director who can contribute to CAF’s overall success by handling the following duties:

  • Responsible for the following Departments: Human Resources, IT, Procurement, Services (incorporation of logistics, facility services, transportation, production) and travel (ticketing, visa and accommodation)
  • Accountable to establish and maintain strategic workforce plan of CAF in order to manage the HR department
  • Accountable to establish and ensure implementation of a comprehensive CAF IT strategy
  • Ensure effective functioning of Procurement Department and Procurement rules (guidelines)
  • Ensure effective functioning of Facility Services, Production, Logistics, travel, accommodation, transportation and facility Management
  • Establish policies and services that promote CAF vision and culture
  • Managerial oversight of external vendors and suppliers of HR & Services
  • Overall managerial and financial accountability for daily operations of HR & Services for CAF Administration

Requirements

  • Master degree in Business Administration, Economics and or relevant field
  • Proven track record in similar leadership role (minimum 7+ years’ experience)
  • Demonstrated experience in managing external suppliers and customers
  • Understanding of business functions, in particular Travel & Accommodation, HR, IT, Facility Services, logistics and Procurement
  • Strong sense of responsibility and accountability
  • Outstanding leadership and team building skills

Head of IT who can contribute to CAF’s overall success by handling the following duties:

  • Setting the mission and vision of the IT organization to ensure realization of business objectives
  • Partnering with senior business leaders ensuring alignment of the IT strategy with the business needs and facilitating its delivery
  • Defining the strategy and steering the implementation of the full landscape of IT services and solutions for CAF competitions and events
  • Provides direction on evaluation, selection, implementation and maintenance of information systems, ensuring appropriate investment in strategic and operational systems.
  • Establishing relationships and creating synergies across the organization to enable cost-effective and innovative shared solutions
  • Providing strategic leadership and direct management for CAF’s IT organization, as well as planning and developing the annual IT budget, ensuring consistency with overall strategic objectives
  • Driving the development of technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics to ensure that IT delivers value to CAF
  • Determining long-term organization-wide technology needs and developing strategies to respond to them
  • Ensuring adequate quality of IT services delivered to CAF in all IT areas, including IT Strategy, IT Governance, Business Relationship Management/Demand Management, Events IT, Infrastructure & Operations, Applications Development and Support, Information Security etc.
  • Driving innovation and creative solutions to business challenges as well as ensuring appropriate investment in strategic and operational solutions and services

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or similar higher education, in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field
  • 15+ years overall IT experience and a minimum of 7 years of progressive experience leading multi-discipline IT teams of significant size
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of how to apply current and emerging technologies to business problems
  • Experience leading the reorganization and transformation of an IT organization; proven ability to take IT to the next level
  • Excellent knowledge of IT concepts, technologies, infrastructures and systems
  • Proven record in building, leading and motivating a multi-discipline IT team
  • Solid understanding of budgeting and procurement management
  • Professional certifications in the area of IT governance and project management (e.g. CGEIT, PMP, etc.)

  • Handle procedures before CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sports), including general communications, drafting of appeal briefs and answers and, when necessary, coordinating such tasks with other departments or external counsels
  • Represent CAF during CAS hearings
  • Monitor and communicate the outcome of awards and other relevant aspects of arbitration proceedings
  • Research and analyse relevant developments in the arbitration scene and identify and suggest necessary amendments to current practices or to CAF regulations
  • Hold workshops with CAF employees, member associations or confederations on CAS-related issues
  • Represent and enhance CAF’s image

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law or J.D. degree
  • Master’s Degree in International Sports Law is an asset
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in international sports arbitration
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Good knowledge of football governance as well as of CAF’s regulations, International Arbitration and proven experience in CAS proceedings
  • Admission to practice law (Bar) for at least 3 years
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • Good analytical skills.
