Street Child is a UK charity working to protect vulnerable children and improve access to education in some of the poorest communities in the world.  We work in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nepal and since November 2016, Street Child has been involved in the Humanitarian response in North East Nigeria.

Street Child works in the fields of education, child protection and livelihoods, working to deliver sustainable solutions and create maximum impact. Our work combines counselling, family mediation, business support, school building, teacher training and child protection.  We were a key player in the Ebola crisis and led the global response for children orphaned by Ebola in Sierra Leone and Liberia. We deliver all our programmes through local partners and, since 2008, together we have built/renovated over 200 schools and are now helping to educate over 40,000 young people.

We are recruiting to fill the positions of:

 

Job Title: Team Lead

Location: Calabar, Cross River
Report to: Child Protection Manager
Specification: Nigerian Nationals Only
Starting from: 1st April
Contract duration: 4 Months

Key Responsibilities
Programme Delivery:

  • Preparation of narrative and financial reports weekly & monthly, as required for the management team and donors
  • Identifying, troubleshooting and reporting issues with programme implementation to the Child Protection Manager as necessary
  • Responsible overall for the implementation of Street Child’s Child Protection programme in Calabar, Cross River State, including monitoring of activities progress against target & supervising and recording project activities expenditure against budget

Partner Supervision & Mentoring:

  • Liaising with the Learning & Partnership Manager to identify partner training/capacity building needs and to conduct capacity building training when necessary
  • Project delivery: monitoring of activities progress against targets, supervising and recording project activities expenditure against budget,
  • Identifying, troubleshooting and reporting issues with project implementation to the Nigeria Programme Manager as necessary
  • Responsible for effective management of implementing partner including progress of activities, financial and narrative reporting
  • Overseeing partner monitoring to identify and respond to any issues as they arise

Coordination:

  • Responsible for coordination and liaison between Street Child and other agencies / local government in Calabar, Cross River State (with support of Programme Managers)

Language:

  • Fluency in English and excellent writing skills.

Technical skills:

  • Strong monitoring and evaluation skills/experience
  • Knowledge of project cycle management.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, strategic thinking and planning skills.

Terms and Conditions

  • The contract is for 4 months, with an initial probationary period of 1 month. The salary will be proportioned to the candidate experience and balanced to the Street Child salary scale.

Job Title: Programme Officer

Location: Calabar, Cross River
Contract Duration: 4 Months

Report To: Team Lead

Operational / Context Role

  • The Programme Officer will be required to support the Team Lead in Calabar on all aspect of project delivery. This includes implementation of project activities, reporting and partner monitoring. The person will be required to work flexibly and provide ad-hoc support to the Team Lead as necessary.
  • The ideal candidate would have experience in implementing projects in Child Protection, especially with a focus on Case Management and Child Protection Trainings. Good communication and team-working skills are essential, and the candidate must also be able to work independently. Analytical thinking, problem-solving and flexibility are expected.
  • Street Child is looking for a dedicated Programme Officer for our child protection project in Calabar, South-South Nigeria. The project is a 4-month UNICEF-funded project in partnership with UNICEF.
  • The goal is to address child protection challenges by strengthening child protection systems, supporting local actors to provide quality services to vulnerable children. With the aim of addressing the needs of children and community members, therefore, this project will focus on building capacity and strengthening coordination in CRS through a meaningful partnership with both government and non-government actors.

Key Responsibilities
Programme Delivery:

  • Work closely with implementing partners to ensure quality implementation and accurate reporting
  • Support the Team Lead to identify and report problems with project implementation as they arise
  • Support the Team Lead to deliver timely planned activities
  • Monitor day-to-day activities to ensure best practice is adhered to in project implementation

Reporting:

  • Support the Team Lead in keeping the Programme Manager informed on activity progress, including through regular reports

Partner Liaison:

  • Support the Team Lead in identifying partner training/capacity building needs and conducting capacity building pieces of training
  • Work closely with implementing partners to prepare and submit reports on the approved frequency
