Mobile Theater Troupe Job at the Center for Community Health and Development (CHAD) International

The Center for Community Health and Development International is a non-discriminatory, non-governmental organization with a mandate to improve the health and quality of life of Nigeria’s rural children and women. CHAD was established in 2002 by a group of women from different religious and ethnic background in Gombe state, North East Nigeria.

Job Summary

  • As mobile theater troupe, you will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be tasked with delivering smart, agile and versatile service through a stage display.
  • The key messages will centre on inclusive and participatory community development. The pictorial/imaginary concepts must depict messages that play a meaningful role in culture and are adapted to the local context.

Contextual Understanding:

  • The project support to Re-build Resilience in Northeast Nigeria itТs a GIZ/CHAD Intl funded programme that aims to enhance inclusive and participatory community development in Shani and Hawul LGAs of Borno State Northeast Nigeria
  • Being implemented in Shani and Hawul LGAs, Borno state, funded by GIZ, it seeks to change individuals and societal behaviours, attitudes and perceptions that hamper the opportunities for societal development.
  • The project involves grassroots mobilization including community leaders, religion leader, youths, women and other relevant stakeholders.

Additional Information / Responsibilities:

  • The purpose for mobile theatre troupe is to produce an adapted and context-driven edutainment stage play drama series that will depict, directly address and stimulate actions around the key issues of inclusive and participatory community development in Shani/Hawul areas of Borno state. The objectives are not limited to the following:
    • Jointly produce production with CHAD Intl a day (45 minutes) entertainment-education stage play drama series in Hausa, preferably with the local language (Babur/Kanuri) that will enlighten the targeted audience on the need for inclusive and participatory community development.
    • The key theater drama massages are to raise awareness on the need for general involvement for community development
    • Challenge cultural norms and practices that limit the choices and opportunities of general involvement in the context of the gender.

Responsibilities
The Mobile Drama troupe shall be on part time bases with the following responsibilities:

  • Character and script development must be developed using information from research and in a local context.
  • Translation of English script into Hausa preferably with Babur/ Kanuri language.
  • Production of all relevant work including acting, directing and editing are to be vetted by CHAD Intl before stage display, this is to be done through the programme officer.
  • Note: Before stage entertainment, CHAD Intl reserves the right for final approval of each episode.
  • A final script including character analysis (in English and Hausa) is to be submitted for approval to CHAD International before use.
  • An original theme song with the native language.
  • The Drama troupe must be conversant with Hausa language; Babur/Kanuri will be a plus to the troupe.
