We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Communication Officer

Ref: IITA-HR-NRS2020-019
Location: Abuja
Recruitment Type: National (2-year renewable contract)

Duties

  • In consultation with the IITA Communications office; implement communication strategies and campaigns to support AfricaYam II project activities.
  • Maintain website of the Yam Community of Practice (YCoP) through a mechanism of regular updates and communication with relevant stakeholders;
  • Develop and Participate in producing various communication materials including brochures, flyers, banners, posters, articles, news stories and technical reports on AfricaYam II project activities;
  • Support the development and packaging, print/web/audiovisual/multimedia materials in a variety of formats for the AfricaYam II project;
  • Monitor stories in the print and news media that cite activities;
  • Co-facilitate the dissemination of farmer- friendly information activities through features writing, press releases, field days, radio programs and television;
  • Assist in producing unique photography and video coverage for events/occasion;
  • Support the production of training videos, conducting informative interviews and testimonials aim at promoting interventions of AfricaYam II project partners.
  • Review all publications and designs materials for errors before printing;
  • Create and upload engaging social media content using graphics and illustrations to increase awareness and sensitization of yam stakeholders;
  • Manage all exclusive photographs and video content for social media platforms;
  • Monitor all social media conversations, mentions, and other activities and provide feedback to questions and comments;
  • Collect and share feedback from social media channels with relevant unit;
  • Maintain the project partner and stakeholder database, making sure the database is populated and data is kept up to date;
  • Perform all other related duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification

  • BSc / HND in Mass Communications, Journalism, Media Relations, English Language or related degree in social science with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience performing related roles in an international organization.

Competencies:
The ideal candidate must:

  • Expert knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Applications – Word, PowerPoint, Outlook applications; Cloud data storage tools – Google drive, DropBox, OneDrive.
  • Adept at using major social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
  • Good skills in writing, editing and proofreading, concept and brand creation
  • High degree of motivation, initiative, independence, reliability, adaptability, and professional maturity.
  • Good command of English – possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented multicultural environment.
  • Experience in the use of graphic design software – Adobe Suite, CorelDraw etc; will be a plus

Job Title: Administrative Assistant

Ref: IITA-HR-NRS2020-019
Location: Abuja
Recruitment Type: National (2-year renewable contract)

Duties

  • Perform a broad variety of administrative tasks for AfricaYam II project in all aspects including managing meetings, commitments, appointments/schedules, travels, and other routine and non-routine activities of the project and following up appropriately;
  • Manage logistics of meetings, trainings, workshops etc.
  • Handle incoming calls and correspondences, raising draft statements and responses on behalf of the Project Leader;
  • Prepare meeting notes for all project and related meetings
  • Work closely and effectively with the Project Leader and be proactive in bringing up matters that should receive his attention;
  • Support the Project Leader in preparation for meetings and assist with the design and development of relevant presentations by Project Leader;
  • Develop and update relevant databases for the effective running of the project and facilitate easy retrieval of information;
  • Process claim reimbursements, purchase requisitions and manage procurement of materials and equipment required for the effective running of the office;
  • Ensure efficient travel logistics for project staff and provide support for routine office activities;
  • Perform all other related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc / HND in Business Administration, Office Management, Finance, Accounting, Secretarial Studies or related discipline with minimum of three (3) years’ experience performing related roles in an international organization.

Competencies:
The ideal candidate must:

  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel Word and PowerPoint) with a good working knowledge of computer-based control systems, shared network drives, and excel packages
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented multicultural environment.
  • Have ability to multitask, work with minimum supervision and effectively within strict deadlines.
  • Have ability to deliver accurate and timely reports.
  • Have good manners in showing flexibility, respect, friendliness and cooperation.
  • Have good excellent communication skills.
  • Have working experience with scientists in an international organization be an added advantage.

Job Title: Research Supervisor (Molecular Breeding)

Ref: IITA-HR-NRS2020-019
Location: Ibadan
Recruitment Type: National (2-year renewable contract)

Duties

  • Offer technical support to molecular breeder and lead breeder inoverseeing all technical aspects for the genotyping activities of the AfricaYam II project.
  • Maintain clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for genotyping and related laboratory research in yam breeding to ensure efficient, timely and highquality results.
  • Orders laboratory and/or other supplies as directed by molecular breeder and senior staff.
  • Assist the molecular breeder in all aspects of the yam breeding, including planting genetic study and breeding trials, sample collection, harvesting of trials, and seed increases, quality evaluations and data management
  • Capture data in electronic systems (desktop computing and handheld sets), YamBase and conduct data quality check and assurance to enable timely advancement of germplasm in the yam breeding program
  • Supervise and motivate the labour, capacity building of partners, students and other collaborators.
  • Manage relationships with co-operators/partners to ensure timely completion and integrity of data collected, shared and uploaded to YamBase.
  • Assist the molecular breeder in the training of students, staff, partners and collaborators in yam breeding practices and methodologies
  • Complies with all IITA policies, rules, regulations, and codes.
  • Perform any other responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification

  • BSc / HND in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Plant Breeding, or related fields with at least three (3) years of experience in a crop breeding program, preferablymolecular breeding.

Competencies:
The ideal candidate must:

  • Knowledge and experience in field sample collection, DNA extraction and data analysis
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Individual with hard working, courteous and respectful skills, a valid drivers’ license is an added advantage.
  • Ability to work with staff of diverse ethnic backgrounds and nationalities.
