Background

  • Under the direct guidance and supervision of the SOC/Supervisor (SOC/S) and overall supervision of the respective FSCO, the SOC/O is assuring continuous and effective functioning  of Security Communications System (SCS) and other operational communications related tasks to the implementation of safety and security for UN personnel within respective Area of Responsibility (AOR).
  • The SOC/O is required to provide timely and accurate technical advice to SOC/S keeping the designated Security Area Field Security Coordination Officer (FSCO) informed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To ensure the undisrupted functioning of SCS within AOR.
  • To ensure that the Area SOC keeps a 24/7 watch to collect all available info in their AOR and send it to the FSCO and the Senior SOC/S through the Country SOC.
  • To monitors the security situation within AOR;
  • To monitor/track/report UN movement and activities within given AOR.

  • Any other task directed by designated FSCO and SOC/S.

The key results have an impact on the accurate and timely implementation of the overall UN security program within given AOR through the functioning, effective, and efficient communications of information and instructions, particularly during emergency conditions.  The functions and associated key results ensure UN policy compliance and practical capabilities throughout the AOR.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:

Background

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle. Support in the management of office supplies and inventory.

Background

  • The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted in September 2015 in New York, as the successor to the unfinished business of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). To fast tract its implementation in Nigeria, a technical collaboration between the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been developed.
  • The technical collaboration is aimed coordinating the partnerships for SDGs implementation between MDAs at the National level, between the national and sub-national governments as well as between the government and the private sector.
  • The approach builds on the work already done by both institutions during the implementation of the MDGs. This recruitment will help bring the requisite capacity to ensure that the 17SDGs are aligned to the medium-term plans at both national and sub-national levels especially at the sector levels and its implementation are also consistent with the implementation of the domestic development plans.
  • Given the national and State level peculiarities, the recruited Staff member will help facilitate the localization of the SDGs at the tiers of government and its subsequent mainstreaming into the plans in addition to the specific duties and responsibilities states in section III below. The overriding purpose is therefore to strengthen the technical leadership for SDGs implementation and coordination at both the State and federal levels through the office of SSAP- SDGs in Abuja, Nigeria.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of UNDP National Economist, the candidate will:

  • Liaise with the Head of CGS to coordinate OSSAP-SDGs subnational interventions
  • Work with the Head of CGS to review and implement the CGS implementation manual
  • Liaise with the Office of the Vice President/Special Adviser to the President on Social Investment to mainstream and mobilize funding for OSSAP-SDGs Social Protection Programmes
  • Provide support to the Head of CGS to develop and implement strategies to effectively engage the sub-national governments and mainstream the SDGs into the State Development Plans

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationship with key stakeholders, including from the MDAs, UN and donor communities to initiate, adapt or test new practices, approaches or methodologies with a view of improving the quality of social protection interventions.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders on data analysis, impact evaluations and learning activities, identifying opportunities for the coordination of the publication and dissemination process of technical reports and other products on social protection.

Background

  • The UN joint programme on Institutionalizing Social Protection for Accelerated SDG implementation in Nigeria, is a two-year programme targeted to strengthen social protection at the federal level in Nigeria. This programme is borne out of SDGs concept of leave no one behind. The main focus of this programme is the removal of key social exclusion factors mitigating against access and utilization of basic social services by the poor and vulnerable. The programme will therefore focus on addressing and building capacity of duty bearers and right holders to ensure girls and boys, persons living with disabilities and women are properly empowered and protected.
  • The National Social Protection policy in Nigeria recognizes the need for both a systemic transformation (long-term) and a blueprint for accelerated implementation (short-term) towards universal social protection. The joint programme will strengthen the right-based approach to social protection by supporting the institutionalization and legislation of the social protection system in Nigeria. The joint programme will support the identification and facilitate the adoption of financial strategies to effectively implement the National Social Protection Policy.
  • The joint programme will guide the establishment and build capacity of state innovation and accelerator SDGs offices with proven track of implemented innovation solutions using social protection for overcoming bottlenecks and expanding financing in order to accelerate SDG achievement.
  • This joint programme is being implemented by four UN Agencies, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), International Labour Organization (ILO), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP and World Food Programme (WFP) with each agency having a specific component towards realizing this programme. UNDP is focusing on establishment and build capacity of state SDGs offices to be innovative and accelerate innovative solutions using social protection to overcome bottlenecks and expanding financing in order to accelerate SDG achievement in the state.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support for effective management of the consultations/workshops, dialogues, meetings
  • Identifies strategic programme areas of cooperation and execution of projects in the areas of Social protection including joint programming with UN agencies.
