Job Title: Chief Medical Officer

Details

  • Our Client has led the way in making affordable healthcare accessible to Lagosians for almost four decades. Located in one of the most densely populated local governments in Lagos, the facility is currently an approximately 100-admission bed hospital which recently became a part of the AfyA Care Group.
  • They are currently in a growth phase as they seek to take their successful and affordable care model to new locations in Lagos via a new hub-and-spoke model. Our client intends to open facilities in at least two new locations in the near future.

The Role

  • The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will be responsible for assuring delivery of quality healthcare services to all patients. He/ she will also help in developing, implementing, and evaluating the medical practice delivery model in accordance with the goals of the Hospital. This position serves as a member of the Management Committee of the Hospital.
  • The CMO will be joining the Hospital in the middle of transformation involving culture changes expansion to new locations and an urgent drive for improvement in quality delivery. The hospital is a high volume, high traffic facility with aspirations of becoming a teaching hospital. The preferred candidate will therefore be required to bring a lot of energy and drive to the job.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to the entire medical functions of the company.
  • Provide planning and leadership to the Medical department by ensuring that appropriate structures, systems, competencies, and values are developed.
  • Perform clinical supervision of medical staff, including regular performance appraisals and feedback to staff.
  • Develop standards and medical governance for medical personnel and the organization at large.
  • Develop and issue medical policies and procedures for the organization.
  • Establish and ensure adherence by physicians, consultants, nurses and the entire medical staff to the company’s code of best medical practice
  • Provide medical and scientific input to support product development teams
  • Keep abreast of all medical regulations and advises the management team on changes and required action.
  • Perform clinical responsibilities as required and agreed upon by the Board
  • Advise on the procurement of medical equipment and consumables
  • Might be required to provide clinical guidance and regular reports on clinical activities to the Board of Directors.
  • Serve as a liaison between medical staff and administration
  • Establish ongoing liaison with the regulators, government agencies, national medical leadership, and key opinion leaders.
  • Provide supervision of continuing professional education, in-service training, and orientation of new medical staff.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the monthly and annual medical budgets for the company.
  • Participate in executive team meetings.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in Medicine with related specialization from a reputable institution is required.
  • Fellowship or equivalent level of Professional Medical Certification in Nigeria or outside Nigeria.
  • Must possess relevant practicing license for Nigeria
  • Must be a certified member of a recognized professional body of Medical Practitioners Specialists.
  • Must have 5-10 years’ hands-on experience in performing medical procedures.
  • Must have Clinical Experience in a large and structured hospital setting.
  • Must have experience in operations, management and administration/leadership role in a healthcare facility.
  • Experience in Clinical Research, Training and Administration will be an advantage
  • Clinical teaching experience and private practice experience desirable
  • Experience as a Medical Director in a medical facility is desirable.
  • Having a mix of experience in high income as well as low/middle income countries will be an added advantage.

Job Title: Neonatal Intensivist

Location: Lagos

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the clinical care of critically ill neonates admitted to ICU according to generally accepted standards.
  • Ultrasound-guided interventional procedures.
  • Basic and Advanced Neonatal and Pediatric Life Support certification.
  • Advanced Mechanical ventilation and High-frequency oscillatory ventilation management.
  • Competencies in the operation and management of CRRT and Peritoneal dialysis in Pediatric patients.
  • Hands-on experience in the management of various Neonatal and Pediatric Critical Care Patients, including Neurological Intensive Care, Cardiovascular Intensive care (post-operative cardiovascular patients, ECMO and ventricular assist devices), Heart Failure, Trauma Intensive Care, Surgical Intensive Care, Respiratory Therapy, ICU Nutrition, Infectious disease, Post Cardio-Thoracic surgery care, Pulmonary Hypertension ICU Management, and Right Heart Catheterization.
  • Possess general medical knowledge and an understanding of how treatments affect different developmental growth stages
  • Should be updated on the latest breakthroughs in the field of Neonatology and Pediatrics.
  • Maintain detailed reports on each child and also report on their progress
  • Coordinate with any other specialist the patient might be seeing.
  • Give medicines that are compatible with other medicines the patient is taking
  • Advice patients on any alternative treatment they might be seeking
  • Help the patient to fully recover from their illness and have the patient follow up even after they are okay as post-recovery treatment is considered important
  • To communicate and cooperate with other medical staff and colleagues who wish to discuss other pertinent medical problems regarding neonates in other areas of the hospital.
  • To be in charge specifically of ventilatory, circulatory fluid and nutritional therapy concerning the neonates and Pediatrics in the ICU.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in Medicine with related specialization from a reputable institution is required.
  • MBBS/MBChB or equivalent
  • Fellowship with the Faculty of Paediatrics of either the West African College of Physicians (WACP) and/or the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN); OR
  • Equivalent fellowship in a country where you can obtain license to practice in Nigeria
  • Specific training and demonstrable experience in Neonatal Intensive Care.
  • Must be a minimum of 3 years post-fellowship.
  • Full registration with the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
  • Foreign training and experience are an added advantage.

The Role

  • The Emergency Medicine Specialist is responsible to the Chief Medical Officer. He/she will be involved with directing and supervising emergency medical care for patients at the ER and as required. He/she is a member of the senior medical team and coordinates provision of specialized and high-quality care in Emergency Medicine for patients who present to the hospital’s Emergency Department while providing leadership and guidance in establishing the highest standards of care and ensuring optimal delivery of quality care in line with international best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clinical management and direction of the Emergency Department in conjunction with the CMO and other specialists.
  • Basic and Advanced Pediatric and Adult Life support certification.
  • Trauma life support certification.
  • Airway management skills and Circulatory support.
  • Analgesia and sedation skills.
  • Breathing and Ventilation management skills.
  • Ultrasound guided skills (peripheral/central vascular access, pericardiocentesis, focused assessment with sonography in trauma (FAST)).
  • Interpretation of ECG and laboratory investigations.
  • Musculoskeletal techniques (fracture immobilization and reduction).
  • Responsible for the assessment and immediate care of all patients admitted to the ER according to generally accepted standards.
  • To communicate and cooperate with other medical staff and colleagues who have patients in ER or wish to discuss other pertinent medical problems regarding admitted patients
  • Undertake essential supporting duties for clinical care like risk management, critical incident investigation and oversight of rosters.
  • Carries out reviews and investigations on drugs, equipment, physiological and pharmacological matters relevant to Emergency care, provides and/or takes part in advisory service to the hospital.
  • Participates in the on-call duties as required by the department/division.
  • Participates in teaching and training of clinical staff assigned and planning career development programmes trainees.
  • Participates in the forward planning, and further development of the Emergency Medicine department.

Qualifications and Experience

  • MBBS/MBChB or equivalent
  • Fellowship in Emergency Medicine with the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) and/or the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN); OR Equivalent fellowship in a country where you can obtain license to practice in Nigeria

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the clinical care of critically ill patients admitted to ICU according to generally accepted standards.
  • Ultrasound-guided interventional procedures.
  • Advanced Mechanical ventilation management.
  • Competencies in the operation and management of CRRT dialysis, Transesophageal echocardiography, diagnostic, and therapeutic bronchoscopy skills, are added advantages.
  • Basic and Advanced Life Support Certification.
  • Hands-on experience in management of various Critical Care Patients, including Neurological Intensive Care, Cardiovascular Intensive care (post-operative cardiovascular patients, ECMO and ventricular assist devices), Coronary Care, Heart Failure, Trauma Intensive Care, Surgical Intensive Care, Respiratory Therapy, ICU Nutrition, Infectious disease, Post Cardio – Thoracic surgery care, Pulmonary
  • Hypertension ICU Management and Right Heart Catheterization.
  • To communicate and cooperate with other medical staff and colleagues who have patients in ICU or wish to discuss other pertinent medical problems regarding patients in other areas of the hospital.
  • To be in charge specifically of ventilatory, circulatory fluid and nutritional therapy concerning the patients in ICU.
  • Additional responsibilities include Cardiac Anaesthesia, Cardiac Intensive Care, pain management care
  • Management of ECMO
  • To participate in the evaluation of the patients who are possible candidates for ICU either as transfers from outside or within our hospital.
  • Participates in the administrative organization of the ICU under the direction of the Consultant in Charge of ICU and takes part in the development of its rules and regulations, the standards of care and maintenance of its equipment (in conjunction with the engineering department).
  • Carries out reviews and investigations on drugs, equipment, physiological and pharmacological matters relevant to intensive care, provides and/or takes part in advisory service to the hospital.
  • Participates in the on-call duties as required by the department/division.
  • Teaches staff assigned for training purposes and participates with the director of department/head of division and the Consultant in Charge of ICU in planning a programme of career development for trainees.
  • Participates in the forward planning, and further development of the department/division and the ICU.
