Head, Broadband Solutions at Phase 3 Telecom

Phase3 Telecom is an aerial fiber-optic network infrastructure provider, providing connectivity, network management and data storage services to wholesale, enterprise and retail customers across West Africa.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Head, Broadband Solutions

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Department: Broadband Solutions

Job Role Summary

  • This role is responsible for the management of Phase3 Telecom’s IP/MPLS network infrastructure, resources, processes and people within the Broadband Solutions team.
  • S/he will be the custodian of all routers, switches, servers and other devices used in providing broadband internet, VPN, Voice and other data services on Phase3’s IP network.
  • S/he will lead in the designing and planning for maximum uptime including the DNS servers, email and IT infrastructure.
  • The head of BBS will maintain Phase3’s IP addressing resources including the membership with AFRINIC and other internet-peering partners;
  • S/he will also provide level-3 support for all incidents towards timely resolution, leading the team in the daily monitoring and handling of service escalations.
  • He will work with relevant units in the business to ensure customer satisfaction matches and enhances the service brand.

Educational Qualification:

  • First Degree in Engineering or its related fields e.g. Electrical, Telecoms, Computer Science
  • Professional certification from an accredited professional body; CCNP/HCIP or the equivalent is crucial
  • Masters degree in a related field and or an MBA is an advantage.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years experience, 6 years in the telecoms sector, with 4 years at senior management level of large, multi-function and multi-funded organizations.
  • Strong experience managing large networks with multiple vendors, diverse equipment and scenarios.
  • Experience in data communication network projects.
  • Experience in leading, mentoring and generating results from diverse and multi-skilled teams.
  • Experience in managing pre-sales engagement in a fast-paced environment will be an added advantage; customer-facing role, capturing requirements and providing solutions to customers and prospects.
  • Server deployment and management
  • Level 2 & 3 service support
  • Knowledge of and experience in deploying:
    • IP/TCP solutions
    • Routing protocols – BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS
    • Fiber Optics, Microwave communication
    • LAN Switching and management– VLAN, STP, access lists
    • DNS, DHCP solutions
    • Robust Wi-Fi requirements.

Technical Competence:

  • Experience in handling Cisco iOS and Huawei VRP
  • IP equipment deployment and management
  • Strong experience in the installation, maintenance, configuring and troubleshooting of IP equipment such as Huawei and Cisco core routers & switches;
  • Management and monitoring of all network elements using monitoring platforms
  • Prompt diagnostic and repair of faulty network equipment in different remote POPs locations by liaising with the field engineers.
  • Management of IPv4/IPv6 resources and bandwidth allocation for optimal performance
  • Network design, planning, administration and maintenance
  • Network troubleshooting and resolution of IP/MPLS/WAN/LAN connectivity issues
  • Troubleshooting of connectivity on entire the network (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP)

Knowledge transfer to other Team Members:

  • Masterful deployment of LAN, MAN solutions; CPEs; router, switches, access points and controllers
  • IP traffic engineering & QoS
  • Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange
  • Cloud services and platforms especially Azure and Google Services.
