Job Title: Farm Supervisor

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers


  • To oversee staff, crops, and livestock, purchasing supplies, preparing budgets and reports, and ensuring maximum profit. maintaining professional networks, keeping abreast of developments in agricultural science.
  • Responsible for obtaining better yield and profitability by deciding on the crops, livestock management and production, plan farming activities, planting, spraying crop protection chemicals, harvesting the crops, marketing and selling crops, documentation of all details including financial aspects of the farm and strategic planning and administration of activities on farm estates.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Budgeting the farm management and accomplishing the farm activities within the planned budget.
  • Deciding on the type, quality and quantity of the crops to be planted, preparing plans for the mode of harvest, harvesting schedules and collaborates with the farm operators for carrying out these activities.
  • Ensuring compliance with government regulations and health and safety standards.
  • Arranging for regular maintenance of field equipment, machinery and farm buildings.
  • Purchasing farm supplies like agrochemicals and seeds, feed for livestock, Management of sales and marketing of farm products like crop harvest, dairy production, and livestock.
  • Maintain knowledge of pests and diseases and an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them, Meeting the deadlines for producing yield and sending the yield to market for auctions.
  • Monitoring the quality and quantity of crops and maintaining animal health, updating knowledge on plant and animal’s diseases and taking necessary measures for treating the same.
  • Preserving environmental biodiversity and undertaking protection activities.
  • Keeping a track of health and safety of farm workers and other staff
  • Organising sales and purchases of livestock, farm equipment, crops and agricultural products.
  • Handling paperwork and keeping administrative records, recruiting, training/instructing and supervising farm workers, keeping an up-to-date knowledge of pests and diseases.
  • Organising maintenance / repair of farm property, equipment and machinery, advertising and marketing farm products or the work of the farmer

Key Performance Indicators

  • Estimating the Quantifiable Characteristics of Products.
  • Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
  • Ability of the farm business to pay all of its financial obligations within a year; working capital.
  • Planation age structure, total plant number, field utilization rates, people efficiency, and mechanization utilization.
  • Monthly stock usage, waste percentage, average usage period for various inputs.

Experience and Qualifications

  • HND in Agriculture or a related subject such as: Agricultural Engineering, Crop Management, Farm Business Management, Horticulture or Land / Estate Management.
  • Minimum of 5 years hands on experience.
  • Proficient computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Relevant certification.
  • Sex: Male.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • A growing relationship with Jesus and a heart for the local church.
  • A Knowledge of food production and an awareness of customer demand, food standards and sustainability.
  • Organizational and time-management skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure, Supervisory skills and management ability, numerical aptitude.
  • Willingness to be outside in all weathers and patience to undertake all sorts of practical, sometimes repetitive jobs.
  • Self-motivation, with the ability to motivate others and a larger-scale business awareness.
  • Marketing skills, negotiation skill, genuine commitment to farming.
  • IT skills, good technical knowledge, a good understanding of modern farming methods.
  • A Commitment to animal welfare, an understanding of the ways in which farming impacts the environment.
