WACOT Rice Limited is a rice processing company which operates a state-of-the-art rice mill in Argungu, Kebbi State, Nigeria. The mill is one of the largest rice mills in Africa and sources paddy from various paddy producing states across Nigeria. WACOT Rice also engages in out-grower farming programs with paddy farmers to boost their yields and guarantees off-take of paddy from farmers through buyback arrangements. The rice mill is based on a robust sustainability platform and the company produces two leading brands of parboiled rice – BIG BULL and PATRIOT.

We are recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: Project Engineer (Mechanical)

Location: Argungu, Kebbi (Office/Field Based)

Reports to: Project Manager
Supervises: All Mechanical Team Members
Travel: 40% – 60%.

Objective / Purpose of Job

  • Responsible for coordinating different teams, designing and developing engineering systems, resourcing, and managing technical activities to ensure project accuracy and quality.

Job Duties / Responsibilities / Accountabilities
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Preparing, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring of assigned engineering projects.
  • Formulating project parameters and assigning responsibilities to the most capable employees and monitoring the project team.
  • Interacting with clients, interpreting their needs and requirement, and representing them in the field.
  • Keeping records of new arrivals i.e. machines and supplies at sites, storage and handling of new equipment and machines.
  • Performing quality control task on budgets, schedules, plans, and personnel performance and reporting on the project’s status.
  • Reviewing the engineering tasks and initiating the necessary corrective actions.
  • Monitoring of tasks and ensure implementation as per drawing designs.
  • Ensure safety, adherence to SOP, and safety standards during installation of structure.
  • Liaison with clients and drawing up reports to present to shareholders and other relevant parties.
  • Ensuring that each project stays within the allocated budget and timeframe.
  • Scheduling meetings and training sessions when necessary.
  • Ensuring that staff remain in motivated by implementing feasible incentives and regular team-building sessions. Oversee and mentor staff and liaise with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Comply with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety etc. and deliver technical files and other technical documentation as required.
  • Ensuring the project’s compliance with applicable codes, practices, policies, performance standards, and specification.

Internally Relates with:

  • All Engineering Sections, Stores, Production, HR/Admin, Finance & Accounts .

Externally Relates with:

  • OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) representatives, Suppliers & Contractors

Education / Knowledge, Skills, Attributes, Experience & Other Requirements

  • B Eng / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline from a reputable University.
  • COREN and NSE membership is a must.
  • Computer literacy and IT skill/Power Point presentation.
  • AutoCAD and other project software like Primavera or programs compatible for Gantt charts/activity chart.
  • Knowledge of reading engineering tools like vernier calipers, micro-meter, measuring tape.
  • Knowledge of structure calculation, weight, volume, area, perimeter etc.
  • Knowledge of steel sections like ISMB, ISMC. ISA, rod, pipe and their basic weight idea.
  • Knowledge of different grades of steel MS, Alloy steel, steel SS304, SS202 etc and their properties.
  • Knowledge of different machining, parts development, fabrication, tool room activities, i.e. types of welding and their application, cutting, drilling etc.
  • Previous project management experience is required.
  • Strong leadership, organizational and time management skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • SOP and HSE implementation skills.
  • Minimum of Seven (7) years’ project experience in similar position.
  • Will work unbound by working hours, should be willing to work in remote location.
