Kogi State to Recruit 10 000 Oil Pipeline Surveillance Guards

The Kogi State chapter of the Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas is set to recruit 10,000 oil pipeline surveillance guards for the protection of oil and gas installations in parts of the state.

The state chairman, Gabriel Ojoka, disclosed this when he led some of his members on an advocacy visit to the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Idrisu Dabban.

Ojoka said the recruitment became necessary in order to tackle the activities of pipeline vandals in parts of the state.

He said the action was also in line with the Federal Government’s directive to all oil-producing states.

He said, “The recruitment is long overdue and in no distance time, we shall do the needful.

“We are here also to solicit collaboration with the police as we want to ensure that whatever we are doing is in line with security guidance.”

Ojoka commended the Federal Government for designating Kogi as an oil-producing state.

This, according to him, will enhance the living conditions of the citizens.

Ojoka further disclosed that within the week, group will hold a peace meeting between Ibaji Oil Community in Kogi and its Anambra counterparts.

Responding, Dabban assured the body that the state police command will work with the group on security matter.

He urged members to be peaceful in carrying out their activities in the state as there cannot be any positive development in an atmosphere of rancour and acrimony.
