Assistant Nursery Manager (Junior Agronomist) at Saro Oil Palm

Saroafrica is set to become a leading consumer, manufacturing, FMCG and integrated agricultural value chain group. In pursuit of this ambition Saroafrica is making significant investment in a Palm Plantation and Cassava to Ethanol Plant. This role is intended for Saro Oil Palm.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Assistant Nursery Manager (Junior Agronomist)

Job Description

  • Support the achievement of plantation FFB targets within the agreed budget.
  • Assist the delivery replanting programme according to best practice international standards.
  • Maintain the plantation at the best upkeep level.
  • Organize and supervise agricultural workforce to improve outturn and workers productivity.
  • Contribute to improve oil extraction rate (OER) by delivering 100% ripe bunches to the mill and arranging for all lose fruit to be delivered within 24 hours of harvest.
  • Support the maximisation yields and average bunch weight through appropriate fertilizer application.
  • Respect first in first out management of all plantation stores items.
  • Assist with the installation and management of nurseries.
  • Support the execution the planting programme to allow at least 2 months rainfall for seedlings before the dry season starts.
  • Assist in the training and upskilling of plantations managers and divisional managers to best management practices of oil palm plantation developing in country skills and capability.
  • Support and assist Agric Director and Edo State Government teams in the implementation of all environmental and health and safety initiatives.
  • Assist with reporting against targets and KPIs to relevant authorities to assess and improve business performance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of second-class upper division in Agronomy or Agricultural Engineering or equivalent subject.
  • At least 4 years work experience.
  • Relevant professional experience in a similar role and environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of agricultural operations, imperatively in the plantation sector, in Africa.
