Since then it has successfully executed several intervention programmes as outlined by its objectives and has made impact in the lives of the very poor. WaterAid with the country office in Abuja currently works in Bauchi, Enugu and Plateau States with funding from various donors and partners.

Job Description

  • This role is part of the WaterAid Institutional Funding & Partnerships team, a twenty strong group within our International Programmes Department.
  • We are a warm and welcoming team, with Contract and Compliance team members located from Nepal, to London to Malawi, and are looking for a motivated, high performing individual to join us.
  • The Contract & Compliance Lead will support WaterAid in managing restricted programme funding effectively and in compliance with funders’ requirements, in the context of an increasingly commercial funding portfolio of the organization.
  • This entails advising on high value and / or high-risk contracts, overseeing and improving internal contract management and compliance systems and supporting training and guidance, and supporting WaterAid’s analysis of and response to relevant external trends in aid mechanisms (e.g. consortium programming, payment by results and commercial tendering).
  • In this role, you will be the focal point for ensuring that the organisation can deliver a high standard of contractual compliance, quality assurance, and risk management in restricted donor funding.

Responsibilities
You’ll also:

  • Spearhead new compliance initiatives, including for commercial contracts, through the development and improvement of organisational policies and practices, with other departments as appropriate, and follow up training, contract-specific tools and guidance
  • Support country and regional teams with review, offer advice and help negotiate high value or high-risk contractual agreements and renewals relating to the funding of WaterAid’s programme
  • Maintain an overview of the funding landscape to the extent relevant to WaterAid’s compliance and funding management responsibilities.
  • Contribute towards the development and implementation of a strategy to optimise opportunities for restricted funding and react to changes in the external funding environment to improve the amount and the quality of WaterAid’s income, influence, and partnerships and ensure funding contracts remain an asset, not a liability.

Requirements
To be successful, you’ll need:

  • Proven track record of experience in award management (including commercial contracts);
  • Strong analytical skills particularly pertaining to risk analysis at the project or organisational level;
  • Ability to deal with complex contracts and multiple stakeholders, including experience in reviewing and negotiating donor contracts and legal agreements;
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience of providing business leadership for information management systems and processes for donor contracts and compliance in a complex working environment.

Remuneration

  • Salaries and benefits for different countries will vary in line with the location of the successful candidate, and depending on experience.
  • The role is within the salary banding of Grade 2 in the UK and Grade G in Country Programme.
