Location: Abuja

Job Description

  • Reporting to the Head of Station, the Social Media Lead will work with the Digital Team of the parent organisation on promoting the station’s content on social media platforms.
  • The job entails growing the station’s audience reach and engagement, as well as referrals to content across all platforms.
  • The Social Media Lead may be required to work extra hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.

The Social Media Lead will be expected to perform the following functions:

  • To develop creative and innovative ways of curating, editing, publishing and/or streaming the station’s content on social media platforms.
  • To create content for the purpose of engaging audience on social media – videos, photos, social media lives, etc.
  • To ensure all content posted/published is in accordance with the station’s editorial guidelines/policies.
  • To be up-to-date with new social media trends and react accordingly.
  • To regularly contribute to the production of content for other media platforms.


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or Mass Communication or Digital Journalism or related courses is essential.
  • Proven experience in creating high quality copy and assets (images, videos, etc) that can be used across social media platforms.
  • Proven record of using social media effectively to engage audiences.

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent written and spoken English and Hausa language skills.
  • In-depth understanding of, and keen interest in, digital and social media, particularly their use as journalistic tools.
  • Good knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube – specifically of relevant formats and best practices, engagement, analytics, SEO, and technical issues.
  • Sound editorial judgment as well as understanding of journalistic ethics and the power of online communities.
  • Ability to manage time and resources effectively and to execute projects to their logical conclusion and according to deadline.
  • Ability to work efficiently with multiple teams.
