The Christian Rural and Urban Development Association of Nigeria (CRUDAN) is a National Christian Development, non-governmental, non-profit, membership organization made up of Christian individuals and organizations from different denominations. The organization has the main goal of promoting the growth of the church in Nigeria by assisting in rural/urban development work that is part of her witness. CRUDAN serves the church all over Nigeria in (W)holistic development work to enable it, (the church), to empower the poor; it also serves its Member Organizations and Individuals in increasing their knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes in various aspects of development.

We are recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: Executive Director

Location: Jos, Plateau
Hours: Full time
Reports: To the Board
Direct Reports: Director of Programmes, Finance Manager, Human Resource Manager.

Job Role

  • To provide overall strategic and operational leadership, development and implementation of programmes, policies and practices that give direction to the organization as well as enhance networking and collaboration with NGOs, CBOs, Churches, Church Development Organisations, other partners and staff in achieving the objectives of CRUDAN.
  • The Executive Director is expected to demonstrate strong overall knowledge, skills, attitudes and abilities as well as diverse personal proficiencies that will enable him/her to steer the various teams to be successful and efficient in leading CRUDAN to achieve its mandate and objectives.
  • The task will include sharing of experiences, insights, materials and Networking with Government and Non-Governmental Organisations, Faith-Based Organizations, as a way of encouraging Integral Mission to ensure that African Communities are transformed as God intends.

Main Responsibilities
Strategic Planning, Programme Development and Management:

  • Provide overall strategic leadership for the project team, coordinate and manage the implementation of all CRUDAN projects.
  • To spearhead the development of Strategic Plan Design and Development for Organizations, Churches and other partners
  • Participate in and assess the engagement of project staff to ensure the right skills sets are deployed for the various roles of the project.
  • Develop and approve work plans and ensure smooth implementation of the project by effectively and efficiently coordinating project activities in line with the approved annual workplans.
  • Effectively manage relations with Church partners and other Civil Society organisations, working in collaboration with CRUDAN programme teams on the implementation of the project to ensure delivery of envisaged results.
  • Initiate and oversee the production of specific case studies on project learning to support and feed into the donor and CRUDAN’s linking and learning goals for further communication within the wider organization and with key external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that programmes are implemented in a consultative, participative and gender sensitive way.
  • Working with the project team and partners, ensure appropriate reporting requirements to the donor are met in line with contractual agreements.
  • Work with the management team in recruiting and managing consultants that will provide short-term assistance on project implementation.
  • Work with the Board in policy-making and implementation, strategic planning and goal setting for the organisation.

Fundraising and Financial Administration:

  • Oversee the proper management of finances of the organization.
  • Lead the team in mobilizing funds through proposal writing, consultancies, trainings and other capacity enhancement programmes.
  • Ensure minimum standards in financial management and reporting are met to support accountability and transparency in project implementation.
  • Review monthly status reports on grants and assist the programme teams to monitor budgets against expenditure, project progression and financial forecasts.
  • Manage budgets for the project in line with donor policies and standards, as well as agreed delegated signing limits for project grants.
  • Manage and monitor grant disbursement to partners involved in project implementation.
  • Oversee the management of delegated imprest float for project-related working advances.

Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Ensure that all programs, events, and activities carried out by CRUDAN are of high quality in order to achieve the vision, mission, and objectives of the organisations.
  • Put in place systems and processes for effective monitoring of project outcomes and reporting based on the project Logic Model and the results framework established.
  • Ensure that the baseline, mid-term and end-line surveys are conducted to derive credible data to guide Project Implementation, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning as planned.
  • Work closely with the M&E Team to ensure adequate tracking of indicators as agreed in the project plan and provide technical information for donor reporting in a timely manner.
  • Lead the process of half yearly and annual project reviews and submit regular situation reports to the Board.
  • Carry out regular monitoring visits to project partners and implementation sites and verify output(s) indicated in progress report submitted to CRUDAN Board and donors.
  • Write quarterly an annual report of organizational performance to the board

Organisational Development and Human Resource Management

  • Ensure that staff comply with and implement project activities based on CRUDAN policies, practices, systems and methods in line with the Strategic plan and agreed projects.
  • Manage and oversee the work of all members of staff to ensure the delivery of mandates from the Board.
  • Manage recruited project-related staff in line with CRUDAN’s Human Resource/Administrative policies and procedures within the framework of performance management and staff development strategies.
  • Line-manage designated staff under a workable and accountable management structure.
  • Ensure that all project staff are aware of CRUDAN’s performance management systems, that objectives are set and monitored.
  • Carry out annual performance evaluation of management team members to identify competencies to build on and capacity gaps to fill.

Representation and Partnership Development:

  • Manage CRUDAN’s external relationship especially with donors.
  • Provide leadership and advice to partners, Organisations and Churches in regard to the implementation of Policies, practices and priorities of CRUDAN.
  • Seek opportunities for Theological, prophetic and Wholisitic engagement of CRUDAN within the wider work and movements of the National Church.
  • Support CRUDAN programme teams in maintaining and managing relationships with the donor through consistent monitoring to ensure compliance and adherence to contractual requirements.
  • Ensure that effective liaison with Church partners and other agencies permits effective and collaborative approach to project implementation.
  • Represent CRUDAN at various coordination fora at different levels: local and national, governmental and non-governmental, Universities, Research Institutions and other bodies, ensuring compatibility with overall commitments and policy/project priorities.
  • Communication
  • Maintain effective relationships and communication with project staff, partners, donor, relevant external stakeholders / institutions key to realizing project results.
  • Communicate project learning in line with donor rules as well as CRUDAN’s linking and learning objectives as appropriate.
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of promoting the CRUDAN brand.
  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities

Personal Qualifications
Qualifications: Applicants must have:

  • Minimum of M.Sc Degree in Social Development or any other relevant field.
  • Committed Christian who is able to maintain the Christian principles of integrity and accountability that the organization is known for.
  • The post holder should have at least 8 years practical experience in working with Christian Church organisations, Christian Development Education, Project Management and managing livelihoods, humanitarian interventions and good management skills and not less than 40 years old.
  • Proven analytical and planning skills and ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Commitment to development principles and action.
  • Sterling leadership qualities and proven ability of mentorship

Experience:

  • Experience working at senior level in a Christian institutions, Christian non-governmental Organisations or ecumenical Organisation involved in the people centred development, financial and other material resources and projects.
  • Involvement in world church and global ecumenical organisations
  • Advocacy and representation in external partnership / collaborative activities.
  • Experience in Management and administration would be an added advantage.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors
  • Experience and ability to work well in, manage and lead large project teams and steer them to achieve and deliver results.
  • Experience in budgeting, budget monitoring and expenditure forecasting.
  • Demonstrate experience of integrating Gender and Diversity issues in project implementation
  • Demonstrable experience of working with and managing Christian Church organisations and local Civil Society organisations, donor funding management and reporting.

Knowledge:

  • Demonstrate a high level of theological understanding of integral mission.
  • Have broad understanding of the history of the world and missionary movement and the contemporary socio-economic and political issues affecting churches and mission development organisations.
  • Have relevant qualifications and skill in management or leadership development. An understanding /or knowledge of project management, strategic planning and conducting evaluations, assessments and other organization development processes.

Skills:

  • Have good communication skills –informing, consulting, negotiation, etc.

  • Demonstrable skills in inter-cultural and religious tolerance
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising: grant writing, year‐end appeals, soliciting major gifts
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and make efficient decisions
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Ability to travel at short notice, work under pressure and in difficult circumstances.
