Director of Works, Physical Planning and Development at the University of Maiduguri

The University of Maiduguri was created in 1975 as one of the second-generation Universities, which formed part of the programmes of the Third National Development plan (1975-80) by the then Federal Military Government. At inception, the university did not have physical structures of its own, but in April 1976 it inherited the premises owned by the former North East College of Arts and Science (NECAS).

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Director of Works, Physical Planning and Development

Background

  • In accordance with the relevant provision of the University (Miscellaneous Provisions) Decree No 11 of 1993 and University (Miscellaneous Provisions) Amendment Act 2012, the Governing Council of the University is inviting interested Candidates with requisite qualifications and experience to apply for the post of Director of Works, Physical Planning and Development

Responsibilities
Office of the Director:

  • The Director of Works, Physical Planning and Development will be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day to day management of buildings, equipment, coordination and Administration of the Physical Development of the Institution in consultation with the relevant organs for the smooth running of the University.

Qualification and Experience

  • Candidates for the post of Director of Works, Physical Planning and Development should have a good Degree from a recognized University preferably in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture and Quantity Surveying plus NYSC discharge Certificate or evidence of exemption with at least ten (10) years post qualification experience.
  • He must be registered with Council of the relevant body in Nigeria. In addition, Candidates must be Computer literate and working experience in Institutions of Higher learning or similar Institutions will be an added advantage.

Eligibility

  • Candidates for the post should not be above Sixty (60) years at the date of assumption of office and should be within the retirement age at the expiration of the tenure of five (5) years.
  • The Candidate for the position must have a considerable degree of competence, responsibility, integrity, the ability to provide effective and efficient leadership and supervision within the department.

Condition of Service

  • The Director of Works, Physical Planning and Development shall hold office for a single tenure of five (5) years from the effective date of appointment. Salary and other benefits shall be as approved by the Federal Government and the Governing Council of the University of Maiduguri.
