Project Summary

  • The Catalytic Opportunity Fund (COF) project aims to increase access to hormonal IUDs (HIUDs) in Bauchi and Sokoto States of Nigeria by training and supporting health workers in secondary health facilities and high-volume primary health care (PHC) facilities delivering copper IUD services to integrate HIUD service delivery into their existing services.
  • This is in line with the current implementation stage of the National Hormonal IUD Introduction and Scale-up Plan 2021–2024.
  • The implementation approach will be catalytic by utilizing a peer learning and exchange process that supports cascade training of health workers from secondary facilities and high-volume PHC facilities who currently provide Copper IUD services to bring HIUD access to the clients.

Job Summary

  • The Project Coordinator is responsible for the programmatic and technical implementation of the project, including service delivery, SBCC, partnerships, and sustainability.
  • These activities will support and leverage existing health systems working in close collaboration with the Hospital Services Management Board and the State Primary Health Care Development Agencies under the supervision of the Ministry of Health.
  • These activities will be done in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health and other partners.
  • Under the supervision of the Nigeria country representative, the project coordinator will work closely with other stakeholders’ staff (both INGOS and local partners) to ensure the successful delivery and sustainability of the project in accordance with national, state, and Engender Health standards and guidelines.

Essential Functions

  • Lead in the design and implementation of the Training cascade program in Sokoto and Bauchi for health workers on Hormonal IUD.
  • Facilitate a continuous planning and implementation process in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, especially the Federal and State Ministries of Health.
  • Lead in the engagement of the Federal Ministry of Health and relevant partners on the deployment of SBCC and Job aids to support the project work in facilities.
  • Advocate and engage government and nongovernment organizations to integrate HIUD messaging into their SBCC programs.
  • Strengthen communication between and within health facilities, and state and federal ministries on service delivery on HIUD using online platforms.
  • Work closely with the FMOH, SMOH, and other partners to ensure adequate stock and utilization of HIUD in supported facilities.
  • Lead in the management of consultants, trainers, and trainees to ensure delivery and documentation of agreed tasks and outputs.
  • Ensure the use and documentation of the HIUD competency checklist and other quality assurance processes in the training, mentoring, and coaching of health workers.
  • Work closely with the SMoHs, Ministry of Budget and Finance, House of Assembly, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure funding for HIUD programming is reflected in State Strategic Health Development Plans, Annual Operational Plans, and 2024 state budgets.
  • Coordinate the reporting of HIUD utilization from supported facilities and engage SMOHs and other stakeholders on the use of the data for decision-making.
  • Contribute to the development and participation in the evaluation of these activities.
  • Participate in relevant Technical Working Group (TWG) meetings at Federal and state levels to ensure program deliverables are well indicated in approved policies and guidelines.
  • Participate in and provide activity, monthly and quarterly financial and narrative reports.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Administration Procurement manager and Finance Manager to ensure that all necessary support is provided for smooth project implementation.
  • Participate in other programmatic and resource mobilization tasks designated by the Country Representative.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree with a focus on Public Health, Management, or other related Degrees.
  • Experience working in health programming space in Bauchi and Sokoto states in the last three years.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health programming.

Essential Soft Skills:

  • Experience with and understanding of MOH structure/systems.

Preferred Skills, Abilities, and Functions:

  • Experience engaging Ministries of Health on project implementation and sustainability.
  • Experience working with other INGO partners on similar MNCH programs in Bauchi and Sokoto.
  • Experience coordinating different stakeholders to deliver focused results.

Salary Range
NGN1,800,000.00 to N2,200,000.00 annually
