Communications Officer at Yobe Peace and Community Development Initiative (YOPCODI)

Yobe Peace and Community Development Initiative (YOPCODI) is a registered National civil society organization (CSO) working to expand equitable access to quality basic services for vulnerable communities especially by women, children, adolescents and youth in Northeast Nigeria. Our Head Office is located in Damaturu- Yobe state. Our work engaging government and community stakeholders for improved service delivery in humanitarian and development sectors with specific attention to access to healthcare, education, protection livelihoods as well as peace and conflict resolution in a manner that ensures accountability by both demand and supply side actors. We deliver people-centered programs and service through partnerships and collaborations with communities, governments, as well as international humanitarian and development agencies.

Job Title: Communications Officer

  • YOPCODI is a Nigerian Non-Governmental Organization (NNGO) that envision a society where communities have equitable access to social and economic services.
  • YOPCODI works for the sustenance of peace and development in volatile and resettled communities affected by insurgency, with focus on responding to the immediate, short and long-term needs of affected children and women in Northeast Nigeria.

Position Summary

  • The Communication Officer is in charge of managing and directing YOPCODI’s public relations, develop and distributes information to promote the organisation and ensure that all communications are made in the most appropriate and effective manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating and maintaining a high quality photo gallery as well as creating short videos to promote YOPCODI work and mission
  • Develop and conduct communications trainings for staff and volunteers
  • Support the design of YOPCODI reports and periodic dashboards
  • Contribute on creating online content and managing most effective social media pages as per the organisation’s culture
  • Create and produce internal newsletters for the organisation
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with journalists in multiple types of media outlets
  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization.

Key Skills and Experience Required

  • Relevant Degree of equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in a similar role
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Experience of handling complex communications campaigns
  • Wide breadth of multi-channel communications
  • Leadership skills
  • Decision-making and problem solving skills
  • Good networking skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize projects
  • Attention to details
  • Knowledge of the Associated Press style guide.
