Duties and Responsibilities
- The PLANE Knowledge Management & Communication Manager is responsible for the strategic communication, knowledge management, and advocacy for PLANE.
- He/She works to produce high impact deliverables – such as research, newsletters, case studies, discourse events, learning sessions, websites, online resource centres, media products, media campaigns – that are relevant for PLANE delivery and impact.
- This role will provide technical direction in knowledge management, communications and advocacy through appropriate strategies, processes, and initiatives to improve programme delivery, visibility, and learning.
- He/She will work across all outputs to develop record management processes, and policies and identify areas to increase efficiency across the PLANE programme KPIs.
- H/She will work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation team and will also create joint activities with programme partners through workshops, meetings, training, etc. to strengthen connection to aid information exchange within systems across the PLANE programme and portfolio.
The responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
- Implement communication strategies to increase visibility and brand credibility of PLANE among target audiences to support result communication and scaling of impact.
- Translate the PLANE knowledge management, communication and advocacy strategy into work plan activities and where necessary, improve it.
- Lead delivery of knowledge management, communication and advocacy activities.
- Develop an optimum reporting protocol and support the reporting process.
- Maintain quality and ensure PLANE’s standards for all externally shared products are met for products such as reports, leaflets, event posters, newsletters, social media.
- Ensure a high degree of technical accuracy, quality and ethical standards and assemble external talent, supervise, and provide strategic direction for sub-contractors and short-term consultants in charge of web and graphic design, photography, videography, digital marketing, and technical writing.
- Work closely with the MEL and technical staff and partners to ensure high-quality strategic communication on Programme progress for external and internal reporting and learning.
- Generate knowledge products, such as but not limited to, evidence-based opinion pieces, success stories, case studies, guides, and toolkits.
- Coordinate the establishment of technology to manage programme knowledge such as a social media, Resource Centre, Website, Document Management systems.
- Ensure internal & external newsletter development and dissemination to the client, diverse audiences, and stakeholders.
- Write and curate technical content for the PLANE website and social media in collaboration with technical leads ensuring messages are consistent and engaging. Increase reach, engagement and followers on PLANE social media.
- Design and implement effective learning activities, engage partners and learning champions especially Windows 2 & 3 in the execution of learning activities.
- Work with the Output and Location Leads to document and share lessons learned and best practices for dissemination and guide future work planning.
- Conceptualise, plan, manage, and execute successful knowledge-sharing events including roundtables, seminars/webinars, workshops, conferences, and peer learning sessions.
- Facilitate cost-effective, deliberate press appearances and interviews, publication of editorials and ensure the programme impact, stories and opportunities are disseminated widely.
- Build the PLANE brand assets and communications tools such as report templates, slide decks, icons.
- Lead engagement with stakeholders, FCDO, as appropriate.
Skills and Qualification
Education:
- A minimum of a Master’s Degree or higher in a Humanities course such as Mass Communications, Literature, Law, Knowledge Management, or a relevant field from a top university.
Experience:
- Over 8 years of work experience with steadily increasing responsibility with at least 5 years of them in international development in research & analysis, communications, and knowledge management roles.
Essential:
- Certification in international development technical approaches and/or specialized disciplines such as knowledge management is a plus.
- Strong planning skills are vital: strategic and annual planning competencies and the ability to conceptualize activities and drive them from idea to execution.
- Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills are essential, must possess the ability to deliver technically rigorous documents.
- Professionalism and demonstrated experience working effectively with project teams and senior management, with a team-player attitude and proactive, responsive, and collaborative work style.
- Excellent events management, facilitation, and capacity-building skills are critical.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize large amounts of information and repurpose messages for different audiences.
- A person with a creative approach to problem-solving, a positive attitude, an ability to work under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines.
- Mastery of Microsoft Suite and familiarity with managing CRM software.
- High attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
- Cross-cultural competence, comfortable engaging in a global firm, a proven ability to work across multiple business functions, and proficiency at managing stakeholders.
- Possesses a high level of comfort with technology as a KM solution.
- Demonstrated long-term commitment to a career in international development.
Language requirements:
- Essential: Fluency in English, written and spoken.
