ASUU Strike Update: Get Ready For A Prolonged Strike, 6th Dec.

The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Biodun Ogunyemi has called on the striking lecturers to prepare for a long strike. This was contained in a Bulletin number 5 sent to all members of the union. According to him, the Government is not ready to resolve any of the demands of ASUU.

”Members are to be on the watch and prepare for a long drawn out struggle to salvage the university system.” The Bulletin reads.

He urged members to remain steadfast and resolute in the face of intimidation or antics employed by the government through vice-chancellors and governing councils to undermine the ongoing struggle.

“Government is yet to change its “keep them talking” style and stance as all the meetings held so far with the Minister of Education are yet to resolve any of the demands of ASUU.”

Meanwhile, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) is equally gearing up to embark on strike on December 12th, 2018. In all these, the students seem to be more on the receiving end. We implore the FG and all stake holders find a way to resolve all these as soon as possible and get the students back to the classrooms.
