Job Title: Chief Production Technologist

Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Third-Party Contract

Position Overview

  • Production Technologists are primarily responsible for the functional design and technical integrity of systems to produce hydrocarbons from the reservoirs and safely bring them to the surface, then for the expertise required to optimize flow from these systems during the full lifecycle of the asset and this directly significantly affects the bottom line – cash flow.
  • The position of Chief Production Technologist exists to create value running into several millions of dollars, safeguard and improve on assets, and assure the company’s worldwide reputation.
  • Lead the entire Production Technologists in the company to deliver quality studies, wells & completions designs, Production optimization and multi-discipline projects in accordance with World Class Hydrocarbon Maturation and Well Delivery and Intervention Processes, and the deliverables set by Seplat’s requirements to optimize Oil & Gas recovery.
  • Mentor, and provide guidance for career and skill development for the production technology staff; and ensure best discipline practices are followed across the organization.
  • Generate and Provide functional oversight of discipline processes, standards and procedures (well completion design, rig & rigless activities, Wells & Reservoir Management, and technology maturation aimed at improving production performance, monitoring, intervention, and remediation), across the organization. Ensuring consistency with the company’s strategy and adherence to petroleum engineering best practices.
  • Co-ordinate, lead, disseminate and communicate key geo-scientific developments derived both from internal and external research programs.
  • Develop technical and leadership skills in all team members, providing regular, constructive feedback and coaching and ensuring that succession plans & career development plans are in place & current.
  • Participate in special technical projects: peer reviews, audits, technical reviews, troubleshooting, asset acquisition, etc; internally and externally on behalf of Seplat.
  • Assist with creation of realistic and well-justified annual budget requests and track budget activities (this usually runs into millions of US Dollars) in well construction and optimization activities.
  • Set corporate standards for the discipline community to provide a basis for assuring the quality of deliverables.
  • The incumbent is expected to be broad-based and seasoned PT with significant experiences from one or more regions outside West Africa and a subject matter expert in one or more core areas in Production Technology.

Requirements
Minimum Qualification:

  • A university degree in Engineering or equivalent with 16 -20 years relevant experience, including a minimum of 12 years PT work experience in an operating company.
  • As Chief Production Technologist, incumbent must have a broad understanding of other E&P disciplines and skills in all key Production technologist specialties, including experiences from one or more regions outside West Africa.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to the companywide Production Technologist in particular and subsurface communities in general to deliver quality studies, wells, and completion designs, and projects to be able to extract maximum Production from the assets for the company to remain profitable and meets her obligations to all stakeholders.
  • Accountable for the functional design and technical integrity of systems to produce hydrocarbons from the reservoirs and bring them to the surface, then for the expertise required to optimize flow from these systems during the full lifecycle of the asset. This is critical for the company’s reputation and profitability.
  • Provide functional oversight of discipline processes, standard and procedures across the organization. This is to ensure consistency with the company’s strategy and adherence to petroleum engineering best practices.
  • Co-ordinate, lead, disseminate and communicate key geo-scientific developments derived both from internal and external research programs. This is essential towards developing professionalism in the team with an end goal of maximizing production from the assets.
  • Develop technical and leadership skills in all team members, coaching and ensure that succession plans & career development plans are in place & current to set the company on a firm footing for growth and profitability.
  • Lead, participate in special technical projects: peer reviews, audits, technical reviews, troubleshooting, asset acquisition, etc., to build competence-base and grow production.
  • Set corporate standards for the discipline community to provide a basis for assuring the quality of deliverables.
  • Technical authority for all decisions regarding the well that may affect its production potential or technical integrity, except for emergency operations and for routine operations within pre-defined technical bounds.
  • Coach/mentor younger PTs as required. Organize and lead regular coaching sessions, development programs, monitoring progress and counselling employees as required.
  • Provide expertise and contribute to FDP leading to the delivery of new wells and Short-term oil generation as required by lenders.
  • Responsible for all wells and field production performances. Deliver all reservoir and well surveillance activities and assist in management/monitoring of flow assurance program
  • QA/QC proposals for routine completion, testing and workover program or special program for well stimulation and other intervention activities.
  • Champion for Technology Transfer within SEPLAT and across the industry to promote the transfer of experience, knowledge and best practice across SEPLAT.
  • Keep abreast of related developments within the oil production industry. Which includes attending and representing SEPLAT at conferences, seminars, PE society meetings, and trade shows with the intent of identifying new developments of interest to the Company.
  • Ensure that an HSE culture of Goal Zero is in place by contributing to key initiatives and providing appropriate role modelling as they relate to his area of responsibility: demonstrate full commitment and proactive HSE management; act as Emergency Response team leader as appropriate. Conducts effective accident investigation and follow up.
