Job Title: Program Manager / Head of Programs

Location: Maiduguri, Borno

Position Description

  • The Head of Programs is responsible for planning and scheduling program materials for the Radio Station.
  • She/He will determIne what entertainment, news broadcast, and other program material the station offer to the public.
  • It is an important role for the station because the listenership of the radio station will depend on the competence of the HoP.  She / He will be expected to singlehandedly manage all programming duties for the station.

The Head of Program is expected to:

  • Check completed program logs for accuracy and conformance with NBC rules and regulations, and resolve program log inaccuracies.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in news broadcast, spans, and another programming.
  • Cue announcers, actors, performers, and guests.
  • Evaluate new and existing programming for suitability and assess the need for changes, using information such as audience surveys and feedback
  • Monitor and review programming in order to ensure that schedules are met, guidelines  are adhered to, and performances are of adequate quality
  • Monitor network transmission for advisories concerning daily program schedules, program content, special feeds, and / or program changes.
  • Plan and schedule programming and event coverage based on broadcast length, time availability, and other factors such as community needs, data ratings, and viewer demographics.
  • Act as liaison between talent and directors, providing information that performers/guests need to prepare for appearances, and communicating relevant information from guests, performers, or staff to directors.
  • Conduct interviews for broadcasts.
  • Develop budgets for programming and broadcasting activities, and monitor expenditures to ensure that they remain within budgetary limits.
  • Develop ideas for programs and features that the station could produce.
  • Operate and maintain on-air and production audio equipment.
  • Prepare, copy and edit tape so that material is ready for broadcasting.
  • Read news, read and/or record public service and promotional announcements, and otherwise participate as a member of an on-air shift as required.
  • Review information about programs and schedules in order to ensure accuracy and provide such information to other media outlets as necessary.
  • Select, acquire, and maintain programs, music, interviews, and other needed materials, and obtain legal clearances / consent for their use as necessary.

Minimum Requirements.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Mass Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing and Advertising, Drama and Theatre etc
  • Advanced Degree (Masters or equivalent) is preferable.
  • A minimum of 10 years of working experience in the broadcast industry.
  • Experience in broadcasting and/or online programming and promotion. Relevant experience includes program management, audio production, project development, community relations program automation, and content creation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, including writing, editing, and preparing documents/reports.
  • High level of competency In MS Office software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Knowledge and understanding of radio communications facilities, broadcast equipment, and sound distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of radio organizational structures, workflows, systems and operating procedures
  • Considerable knowledge of media and communication regulatory bodies and the rules and regulations, and laws governing establishment and operations of electronic media organization.

Job Title: News Reporter

Location: Maiduguri, Borno

  • The News Reporter is expected to work under the Head of News.
  • He / She is expected to assist the HoN, in collecting and analyzing information of interest, including crime, government, and breaking news.
  • She/he will gather information, write coverage, assist in conducting interviews, report on-air and edit and edit broadcast, all under the direct supervision of the HoN

The News Reporter is expected to:

  • Research stories and background information through personal contacts, the internet, and other sources to provide complete and accurate information
  • Generate ideas for stories, or taking a brief from the HoN
  • Take pictures or video and process them for inclusion in a story
  • Communicate with listeners, advertisers, or the general public via email or telephone
  • Establish and maintain a relationship with individuals who are a credible source of information
  • Recording interviews – in person, or through telephone or studio links- and sometimes conducting them live

  • The Presenter is the voice of programs broadcast via radio and the internet.
  • She / He job is to entertain and inform an audience by resenting information or entertainment in an accessible and attractive way.
  • They will introduce, host, co-host, programs, create links between items and subjects and topics, introduce and interview guests, and interact with the audience via telephone and web.

The presenter is expected to:

  • Research topics and background information for items to be featured on programs.
  • Plan and rehearses shows.
  • Write and sometimes memorize scripts
  • Liaise with other members of the production and technical team.
  • Introduce and host programs.
  • Interview guests in the studio, by telephone or on location
  • Read Short news, traffic, sport, or weather reports.
  • Provide links between programs.
  • Drive the desk and operate some of the technical equipment for recording and playback, using computers to cue up and play music and jingles.
  • Keep the program running to schedule, responding positively, and quickly to problems or changes and improvising where necessary.
  • Meet with the production crew to assess or review a broadcast, and to plan the next one.

Position Description

  • The Radio Broadcast Technician works under the Chief Engineer
  • She / He will usually perform a range of duties, which include; installation and operating all equipment, such as audio mixing consoles, media control systems, power distribution panel, etc.
  • They will continually carry out tasks to ensure the smooth and effective operation of all equipment at the station.

The Radio Broadcast Technician under the Chief Engineer is expected to:

  • Monitor and log transmitter readings.
  • Select sources from which programming will be received or through which programming will be transmitted,
  • Monitor strength, clarity, and reliability of incoming and outgoing signals and adjust equipment as necessary to maintain quality
  • Make necessary connections and switching to outside broadcast
  • Quickly and effectively troubleshoot problems with the transmission.
  • Assist the ChIef Engineer with conducting functional and operational testing procedures to ensure the quality performance of broadcasts.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Broadcast Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in broadcast engineering, which include equipment installation, management, repair, and maintenance
  • Flexible schedule and ability to support 24/7 operation.
  • Experience in live production environments, Possessing computer network knowledge and training.

 

Job Title: Producer

  • The Producer will be in charge of designing schedules, handling recordings and editing, and also managing budgets.
  • The job role also involves various other duties like maintaining the show time and format arranging the guests as screening and briefing callers.

The producer is expected to:

  • Generate and research ideas for programs and pitching for commission.
  • Develop content, write material for scripts, bulletins, and links.
  • Sourcing potential contributors and interviewees.
  • Select music or nasheed appropriate for the program, the audience, and the station.
  • Produce pre-production briefings for presenters, reporters, technical staff, and other contributors.
  • Manage the logistics of getting people, resources, and equipment together at the right place at the right time.
  • Undertake editing, Interviewing and reporting duties as necessary
  • Present programs or manage presenters for both pre-recorded and recorded output.
  • Check that copyrights are cleared and have an understanding of media law.
  • Convert text, graphics, video, and audio files into other formats.
  • Contribute to, and make use of, an archive of audio resources which can be re-used.
  • Respond to audience feedback, and refer on to other departments as necessary.
  • Produce and make-use of user-generated content.
  • Use technology, such as Cool Edit Pro, Pro Tools, and Adobe Audition, for editing and production purposes.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Mass Communication, Journalism, and in any Media Production related field.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years working experience as a radio/ tv producer

Job Title: Chief Engineer

  • The Chief Engineer provides technical support to broadcast facilities in repair, maintenance, installation and operation of broadcasting equipment
  • She / He is expected to monitor and supervise proper operation and function of broadcast equipment as well as putting measures for setting policies and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the proper operation of radio transmitters and other equipment in the station.

The Chief Engineer is expected to:

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex electronic computer-based broadcasting systems.
  • S/he will repair and maintain equipment in emergency and preventive situations.
  • Set up, operate and maintain various broadcasting equipment such as transmitters, pie rack equipment, transmission line, and antenna system for the station; check equipment for operational readiness and provide operational as assistance/instruction to others needed.
  • Prepare and maintain various technical records and engineering logs pertaining to broadcast equipment performance and discrepancies, and report the same In management for further action.
  • Set up, maintain, and operate remote/outside broadcast facility.
  • Test and align new equipment prior to installation.
  • Develop a standardized operating manual for the daily operation broadcast equipment
  • Software and hardware and also be able to make Suggestions for and equipment when and where necessary.

Minimum Requirements

  • The Promotions Manager is responsible for approaching clients and community partners concerning opportunities for promotional activities.
  • She / He negotiates plans by which the station may participate in and benefit from, including events such as fairs, rallies, festivals, as well a product and service promotional advertisements.
  • She/ He must engage in cross-promotional events designed to drive business to the merchant’s establishment and to garner greater audience attention for the radio station. This should include on-air giveaways related to products through contests, in exchange for advertising for the client(s).
  • The PM is also tasked with the responsibility for day-to-day station sales operations and achieving revenue goals. The PM is expected to have deep knowledge of consumer Insights, market research, trends and specific clients’ challenges to ensure advertising campaigns are custom designed and provide an effective return on investment for clients.

The Promotions (Marketing) Manager is expected to:

Minimum Requirements

  • Proven track record of developing unique advertising campaigns and promotions for product and service advertisers across radio

Job Title: Finance and Administration Manager (FAM)

Position Description

  • The Finance and Administration Manager (FAM) will be accountable to GM on Issues related to financial and administration management
  • She / He will be managing the Finance and Administration Unit and ensure compliance with Al-Ansar Radio and Al-Ansar Foundation’s  general organizational financial policy, oversee overall financial and administrative management (including Human Resources Management and General Operation), such as matters relating to employment discipline, training, performance management and relationship with vendors and service providers.

The Finance and Administration Manager’s responsibilities are categorized Into:

Financial Transaction:

  • Ensure of proper accounting procedures and systems and internal controls to make certain that proper compliance mechanisms are in place; Identifying weaknesses and addressing them ImmedIately.
  • Maintain and post daily all the financial transactions Into accounting books and registers
  • Ensure monthly balancing of cash books and general ledger and prompt reconciliation of bank statements and accounts.
  • Prepare, check and monitor reports on financial makers to be submitted to the Foundation HQ withIn the allowed time frame.
  • Disallow any form of cash transaction and otherwise, ensure daily banking and accurate accounting of sales and revenues.
  • Tracking and overseeing budgets and expenditures controlling cash and revenue expenses and ensuring that every spend are allowable, legitimate, reasonable and approved.
  • Participating in preparing the AAR Program and activity budgets and budget implementation, monitoring all the station’s financial transactions and serving as Certifying Officer
  • Monitoring and advising the GM and Management on the financial status AAR.
  • Ensuring compliance with Al-Ansar financial manual, policy and procedure and the local laws of the Government of Borno state, such as Board of Internal revenue.

Administrative and Human Resources Management:

  • Overseeing and supervising the personnel to ensure attendance and performance of duties, staff learning, competency building staff recruitment and retention, discipline, evaluation, rewards and adherence of consequent personnel management
  • Maintain personnel files and ensure completeness
  • Recommend salary structure and prepare monthly salary schedule of staff of the station
  • Supervise employees by communicating job expectations, appraising job results, and discipline employees
  • Develop and Implement policies and procedures to improve operations and functions of the station
  • Monitors and procures needed supplies for the station.
  • Ensures a safe secure and well-maintained facility that meets environmental, health and security standards.
  • Ensure all supplies such as petrol, diesel and other supplies are in stock and readily available
  • Support to ensure all staff and office assets are covered by insurance and review of the expire dates.
  • Ensure all equipment are maintained, repaired and functioning, including generators, machinery, equipment, and electrical and mechanical systems; and
  • Other duties are required by the General Manager.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Accounting or Business Management
  • Advanced Degree (Masters or equivalent) is preferable.
  • ICAN membership or equivalent: (ACA, ACCA, CNA).
  • Minimum of 10 years of working experience in relevant responsibilities.
  • Sound knowledge of budgeting, financial processes, financial reporting arid internal controls system.
  • Knowledge of procurement, purchasing, and inventory management.
  • Must possess demonstrable knowledge of the principles of office management including organization, workflow, forms, supplies, equipment, and procedures relating to filing, record-keeping, correspondence, mall, procurement, stock keeping, and duplicating.

  • The Head of News and Current Affairs oversees production and on-air anchoring of radio newscasts and public affairs programs.
  • She/ He directs the assignment of coverage for news stories; and covers and prepares news stories for broadcast.   In addition, She/He will provide editorial decision making and guidance to ensure compliance and accuracy, and that deadlines are met in a fast-paced environment.
  • She /He will supervise staff reporters, on-call reporters, interns, volunteers, and news staff assigned to special coverage.

The Head of News and Current Affairs is expected to:

  • Direct the gathering and production or news content for broadcast and digital platforms leveraging the use of digital tools to enhance newsgathering and dissemination
  • Supervise personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel action motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance,
  • Ensure compliance with rules and regulations governing news coverage.
  • Generate assignments and evaluate news leads and news tips to develop stories.
  • Gather and verify factual Information regarding Stories through Interviews, observation, and research; ensures the accuracy of news programs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Mass Communication, Political Science, Journalism etc.
  • Advanced Degree (Masters or equivalent) is preferable.

About the Project

  • This framework of Al-Ansar Foundation coincides with the multifaceted development strategy of Borno State Government under the current leadership of His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, mnl to propagate peace, educate and Inform citizens in order to advance the social, cultural and economic affairs of the State and the nation at large.
  • Sequel to the Borno State Government Invitation to individuals, corporate organizations, NGOs as well as other interested parties to partake in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of post-insurgency Borno, the Al-Ansar Foundation, In response to the above clarion call, decided to establish Al-Ansar Radio and TV / Station with the sole aim of creating a peaceful environment and sustainable development through the use of its platform.

Position Description

  • The GM is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the radio station. She / He is also expected to coordinate and administer the operational and administrative activities towards the delivery of world-class broadcast journalism.
  • She/ He Is expected to participate in the development and administration of strategic and operating plans, and evaluate programs for compliance with the overall mission and vision of the station.
  • The GM will, under the oversight of the Management of AI-Ansar Foundation, the parent organization, provide leadership for the station. This includes steadily increasing accountability for all areas of the station’s multi-faceted operation. He is also responsible for developing strategic and operational plans that will result in the growth of the station arid its people and make a Positive Impact on the community.

The General Manager is expected to:

  • Oversee and coordinate tIre continuous, multifaceted daily operations of the radio station, protect the station’s license through strict adherence to broadcast standards, laws provisions of the National Broadcasting Commission Act, the National Broadcasting Code and all extant laws relating to broadcasting.
  • Maintain accurate schedules of programming, records, discrepancy reports, and follow-through communications and ensure that all on-air broadcast programming complies with rules and regulations.
  • Develop sales and promotions for the station including local and cultural, new business, new media, and non-traditional revenue sources.
  • Participate in the establishment, organization, and implementation of short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures to monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and of changes required for Improvement.
  • Direct and administer the provision of day-to-day operations of the entire station, including the non-engineering portion of the station’s physical plant, space allocation and utilization, station supplies and inventors, arid station safety, and security.
  • Plan, design, establish and maintain organizational structures and systems that enable staff members to effectively accomplish the organization’s mission, vision, goals, and objectives.
  • Manage and motivate all station personnel including training and departmental workshops for staff and sales team to enhance the capacity to sell products and services via Mobile Marketing and Digital Solutions.
  • Manage the physical, human, and financial assets of the station, Including maintenance records of the station operations, staffing, equipment arid compliance activities; prepare monthly and quarterly reports; as well as daily finance and operations feedback to the HQ
  • Provide recommendations to Management Team of Al-Ansar Foundation pertaining to the acquisition of operating equipment; oversee preparation and defense of annual operating budgets.
  • Achieve budgeted financial targets goals and grow the station’s revenue share and help Increase listenership and patronage by serving the interest of the community and developing strong relationships with local clients
  • Reviewing and approving expenditures based on the approved budgets and limitations of the station.
  • Prepare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings and ensure the implementation of board resolutions.

Maximum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Mass Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing and Advertising, Drama and Theatre Arts, etc
  • Advanced Degree (Masters or equivalent) is preferable
  • A veteran Broadcaster with a minimum of 15 years post-graduation experience in a well-established radio / television broadcasting station.
  • At least 5 years’ experience at senior management level In a broadcasting environment.
  • Must be a very good administrator who has a finesse for the marketing of the station
  • Knowledge and understanding of radio communications facilities, broadcast equipment, and sound distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of radio organizational structures, workflows, systems and operating procedures.
  • Ability to develop, plan and implement short- and long-term goals for the station and be able to set appropriate expectations and exceed them.
  • Considerable knowledge of media and communication regulatory bodies and the rules and regulations, and laws governing establishment and operations of an electronic media organization
  • Strong commitment towards creative, successful revenue generation and engaged In serving the community.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and radio-related software with ability to prepare and deliver presentation.
  • Excellent oral communication and memo, report, and article writing skills
  • Familiarity with the culture and environment of Borno State and North East of Nigeria.
