Regional Investment Officer, West Africa at Inclusive Impact Investments

Inclusive Impact Investments BV (Triple I) is an international impact-first investment manager striving to empower entrepreneurs with tailor-made patient capital and venture assistance. The long-term ambition of the fund is to bridge the finance gap for SMEs that contribute to improved livelihoods, women economic empowerment and/or food security & healthy food alternatives for women, youth and/or smallholder farmers. Triple I has its head office in The Netherlands.

Job Title: Regional Investment Officer, West Africa

Location: Lagos
Duration: 40 hours a week

Impact investing by Triple I

  • All our investments are aimed to create a positive impact on the livelihoods of the people directly involved in the businesses we support as well as the wider society. We fully believe entrepreneurial power can make a social change and play a vital role in achieving sustainable economic development and social impact.
  • We build long-term relationships with local entrepreneurs and support them with tailor-made financial products with a payback time of roughly 5-8 years. Our investments are high-risk due to exchange rate fluctuations, non-transparent local markets, semi-fragile governments, low levels of education etc. The businesses we support often experience fragile growth. However, we are driven to help them grow. Local entrepreneurs are our primary clients, not our investors. Therefore, we look for mission-aligned team members who have an entrepreneurial spirit, have a hands-on mentality, understand the challenges local SMEs are facing and are eager to make a change.

The main goal of the job

  • The Regional Investment Officer West Africa will be responsible for shaping and maximizing the impact potential of our fund through developing and fostering relationships with local entrepreneurs and managing the entire lifecycle of our portfolio of enterprises in which we invest. In addition, act as the local vocal point and representative of our fund, build a network of relevant partners for deal origination and venture assistance and provide hands-on support to our portfolio companies.
  • We expect the Regional Investment Officer to support the team with specific local knowledge, market insights, and network in order to realize successful investments, growth of SMEs and create benefits for all stakeholders involved and the wider community.

Role

  • A Regional Investment Officer is a member of the investment team, which is led by the Fund Manager. He/she works closely with the peer Regional Investment Officers in East Africa and South-East Asia, Impact Manager, local entrepreneurs and partners (BDS providers, sector experts and business development consultants).

Key Duties

  • Lead Sourcing: Find investable SMEs that require capital for further growth Ц opportunities are expected to be identified within both existing customers as well as new customers. Build and maintain a network of local actors providing SME development services for deal origination.
  • Collections: Assure that scheduled and delinquent payments are collected from investees.
  • Venture Assistance: Become a trusted advisor to our investees and identify opportunities to support investees with available in-house or 3rd party value-added venture assistance.
  • Admin & Reporting: Maintain all administrative processes and systems as well as be ready to communicate and report out on the activities of an investee or prospect at any time.
  • Institutions liaison: Serve as a key liaison between the clients and our Fund.
  • Customer Service: Maximize client satisfaction to ensure retention of clients; expand relationships by reviewing needs and recommending investment solutions.
  • Due Diligence: Perform key information gathering and thorough due diligence to complete 1) Investment analysis and 2 ) investment proposal for the investment committee
  • Deal making: Structure and negotiate deals (equity and debt or blended) tailor made to the need of the local SMEs.
  • Client Management: Develop lasting business relationships with entrepreneurs within your region and manage the entire customer lifecycle for the portfolio of businesses in which we invest (investees). Represent the fund during Board Meetings in case of a board seat.
  • Confidentiality: Maintains customerТs confidence by keeping client information confidential.
  • Other Operations: As a start-up, it is expected that all team members will contribute to the success of our fund by pro-actively assist in other operations such as legal, marketing, accounting, and administrative activities.
  • The ideal candidate is a flexible problem solver with a can-do attitude who takes ownership of issues. The individual will work closely with members of the investment team and the Fund Manager.

What Experiences and Skills do you bring?

  • The Investment Officer role requires demonstrated knowledge of SME investing and a passion for impact investing. The skills-set that is required includes:
  • Affinity with the mission and work of Triple-I
  • A bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Economics, Masters in Business Administration or related subject
  • About 7-10 year work experience in SME investing; proven track record in deal execution
  • Advanced analytical skills: including the ability to frame issues, identify important points and draw conclusions
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong client service orientation with openness to feedback and new ideas
  • Good networking skills. Preferably, already having a network in local SME investing sector
  • Excellent written & spoken English skills. French is an added preference
  • Familiarity with the sectors and markets the fund is investing in, i.e. experience in agro-processing, manufacturing and agribusiness and service sectors will be an added advantage
  • Required key competencies for this position are result-oriented, team-player, customer-oriented, creative, flexible, entrepreneurial, leadership. Comfortable working in a fast paced environment in a multi-faceted role where priorities can change rapidly; Thoroughness and an eye for details.
