Job Opportunities at Sahel Consulting Agriculture and Nutrition Limited (Kaduna and Kano)

Sahel Consulting and SNV Netherlands Development Organization (www.snv.org ) are looking for experienced candidates in preparation of an expected Request for Proposals by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for a 4-year vegetable project, with most of its activities in Kano and Kaduna states. Staff can be based in Abuja or in the target areas of the project.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Advisor – Horticulture Production

Locations: Kaduna and Kano
Employment Type: Full-time

Tasks

  • Support in developing partnerships with government extension departments, private extension providers, NGOs, other extension providers for quality horticulture extension to smallholders.
  • Strengthen and monitor effective and quality service provision by government extension, private extension providers, NGOs.
  • Facilitate availability of quality inputs (including seedling supply) in project areas (in collaboration with Component 1).
  • Strengthen relevant local business, farmer, trader associations in coordination, service delivery and advocacy.
  • Support implementation of gender, youth and inclusion strategies.
  • Support implementation of the monitoring, evaluation and learning plan and system.
  • Coordinate and collaborate, develop synergies with similar initiatives and projects at state and LGA-level.

Experience

  • At least 10-year experience with horticulture production, up-to-date with modern horticulture practices.
  • At least 5-year experience working with horticulture projects or private extension with horticulture smallholders in respectively Kaduna and Kano.
  • Working experience and existing network with state-level and LGA-level extension departments and offices, suppliers of quality inputs, state-level business, trader and farmer associations.

Job Title: React Mobile App Developer

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Contract

Duties and Responsibilities
The Mobile Application Developer will:

  • Develop and manage the mobile application that will be used for data collection which would be synchronized with existing databases in the web portal
  • Work closely with the M & E team to coordinate tasks on the portal such as introduction of new functionalities or desired changes on the mobile application
  • Serve as an advisor to the team on appropriate mobile application management measures to implement in carrying out its daily operations
  • Organize training sessions with team members in using the mobile application
  • Gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs
  • Create and maintain software documentation
  • Plan, implement, manage, monitor, and upgrade security measures
  • Support Sahel’s initiatives
  • Collaborate as part of a team to develop requirements and interfaces
  • Perform Mobile Application software architecture and design activities and communicate to stakeholders by authoring design documentation and through verbal communication
  • Partner with an internal Project Manager to plan project tasks and contribute to ensure projects are completed on time, within expected scope and budget, with a high level of customer satisfaction and attention to quality.

Experience Required

  • Experience in Web and User Interface design using HTML / CSS, JavaScript, and Bootstrap
  • Experience in mobile application development using React Native
  • Experienced with all phases of app development – from prototyping to publishing to the App Store or Google Play
  • Experience in graphic designing using, Photoshop or illustrator
  • Experienced in providing fine details of visuals, user interaction, transitions, and everything else that makes an app not just work well but feel great as well
  • Experienced in providing agile and lean principles and solving hard problems with clean code
  • Experience in Git repository using GitHub
  • Can develop for both major platforms (Android, iOS) either natively, or using cross-platform tools like React Native
  • Knowledge of popular security measures like SSL, anti-malware protection, password security using Bcrypt and SHA
  • Interest and experience in backend development and developing microservices/APIs to provide data for mobile clients.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional team members

Locations: Kaduna and Kano
Employment Type: Full-time

Key Tasks

  • Lead GESI analysis & project GESI strategy development
  • Short trainings and coaching staff on gender awareness and sensitive facilitation skills
  • Strengthening gender responsive and transformative aspects of the project
  • Support gender learning by the project
  • Support MEL plan to properly capture gender outcomes and impacts
  • Develop and disseminate stories of change to make gender outcomes insightful
  • Exchange lessons and co-develop learning agenda with SNV colleagues from other projects.

Profile

  • Over 10 years’ experience working with agricultural projects including smallholder farmers, including in Northern states of Nigeria.
  • Experience in gender analysis and project gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) strategizing, providing project advice, training and coaching project staff.
  • Has motivated institutions, associations and companies to improve sensitive/transformative approaches, services and policies.
  • Experience with government extension and educational institutions will be an advantage.

Job Title: Deputy Project Manager (With Gender Expertise)

Locations: Kaduna and Kano
Employment Type: Full-time

Profile

  • 10 years experience in senior manager positions with agricultural projects involving smallholder farmers, including Northern Nigeria
  • Experience in managing complex projects, reporting to donors, managing project administrative and financial data systems
  • Experience in gender analysis and project gender equality and social inclusion strategising, providing project advice, training and coaching project staff
  • Proven experience in motivating institutions, associations and companies to improve gender sensitive/transformative approaches, services and policies
  • Experience with government agriculture extension and educational institutions will be an advantage
  • Private sector experience will be an advantage, particularly in horticulture sector.

Key Tasks
Project management related:

  • Supporting the project manager with strategic project planning
  • Daily staff management, regular planning and reporting cycles, approval of budget and expenditures
  • Manage the contracting, quality control and reporting of service providers
  • Ensure networking and liaison with government agencies, associations and farmer organisations
  • Ensure learning and adaptive management among the project team
  • Assist project manager to represent the project in an external form.

Gender related:

  • Lead GESI analysis & project GESI strategy development
  • Conduct short trainings for staff on gender awareness and sensitive facilitation skills
  • Strengthening gender responsive and transformative aspects of the project
  • Support gender learning by the project
  • Support MEL plan to properly capture gender outcomes and impacts
  • Develop and disseminate stories of change to make gender outcomes insightful.
