St. Saviour’s School Ebute – Metta, the pioneer School of the St. Saviour’s Schools (St. Saviour’s School, Ebute – Metta and St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi) was founded in 1951 and for 47 years provided quality education to primary school-age children. In 1998 the St. Saviour’s School, Ebute – Metta in a bid to continue nurturing children, started the nursery school and today proudly provides an enabling environment which inspires excellence and lifelong learning to children between ages 3 and 11.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Music Teacher

Location: Ebute – Metta, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Accountable to: Head Teacher

Job Purpose
The Music Teacher will:

  • Music teacher will instruct pupils in practical methods and music theory of general music, instrumental techniques, scales, sight-reading, singing, as well as playing musical instruments.
  • Endeavour to maintain and develop the ethos of the school, in accordance with the directions given by the Board of Management and, subject thereto, the directions given by the Head Teacher.
  • Teach a class of pupils, and ensure that planning, preparation, recording, assessment, and reporting meet their varying learning and social needs.
  • Contribute to constructive team-building amongst teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, and the Board of Management.
  • Ensure that the agreed conditions of employment for schoolteachers are met.

Duties

  • To create an enjoyable learning and stimulating classroom environment where resources can be accessed appropriately by all pupils and inspire and help them grow in appreciation of music.
  • Monitor students in and out of the classroom and motivate them to extend themselves to after-school music clubs to enhance process.
  • Teach general styles of music to pupils using practical and theoretical methods and incorporating musical instruments in lessons.
  • Teach singing to students from beginner to advanced level including voice, tone, tempo, and rhythms skills,
  • Plan, develop, implement and maintain an effective music educational program for students including program of instruction (instructional materials) and lesson plans.
  • Prepare students for school concerts and planned music experiences by arranging recitals and concerts for pupils’ families and friends.
  • Ensure up-to-date knowledge and awareness of examination requirements to prepare pupil for practical and exams and entering them for external examinations like Muson and Trinity.
  • Conduct music classes according to rules and regulations established by Board of Management.
  • Assessing and evaluate pupils’ abilities, potential, skill, and performance and provide feedback, guidance, and assistance to improve their musical skills through daily assignments.
  • Write reports to parents on the development, progress, and attainment of pupils.
  • Maintain student behavioural standards to ensure productive and disciplined environment during group rehearsals, practices, and performances in accordance with the school’s behaviour policy.
  • Train, rehearse, and lead students in school and community musical programs.
  • Collaborate with school administration to organize musical programs for functions and school productions.
  • Maintain a safe and positive learning environment for students.
  • Maintain student grading and keep appropriate and efficient records, integrating formative and summative assessment into weekly and termly planning.
  • Communicate and co-operate with specialists from outside agencies.
  • Lead, organise and direct support staff within the classroom.
  • Attend staff meetings, seminars, co-curricular events.
  • Participate in meetings which relate to the school’s management, curriculum development programs, student activities, faculty committees, administration, or organisation.
  • Attend educational workshops, trainings and professional improvement programs to maintain professional competence.
  • Participate in the performance management system for the appraisal of their own performance, or that of other teachers.
  • Responsible for books and equipment in the classroom including recommending maintenances and repairs for musical instruments when necessary.
  • Ensure prompt and regular attendance of pupils.
  • Create avenues to advertise or publicise the school through music.
  • Promote a professional image of self as a teacher including dressing professionally.
  • Undertake such duties that may be reasonably regarded as within the nature of the duties of the post.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Head Teacher.

Qualification and requirements
Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in music.
  • License to teach as an academic,
  • Should at least have done Muson grade five (5) theory and practical.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience
