In anticipation of The Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE) project which focuses on “improving basic education and tackling fundamental system constraints by raising the quality of teaching and learning” in key state areas (Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa & Abuja) and to strengthen our operations and interventions in the country, we are seeking qualified candidates for the positions below:

 

Job Title: Finance Assistant

Locations: Jigawa, Kaduna and Kano

Job Description

  • Under the direction of the Finance Officer, the Finance Assistant will be responsible for the provision of accounting, administrative, and logistical support services at PLANE state offices.
  • H/She will support in preparing of the monthly reporting/budget data entry and maintenance of all financial records.
  • Also function as a lead for processing cash advances, retirements, petty cash management for the project.

Minimum Recruitment Standards

  • University Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • Experience in administrative and secretarial skills
  • Sound accounting skills
  • Experience with large complex organization is required, familiarity with international NGOs preferred

Job Title: Finance Officer

Location: Abuja

Job Description

  • Under the direction of the Project Lead, the Finance Officer shall assume responsibility of coordinating finance deliverables including administrative and accounting responsibilities. And will ensure compliance with the contractual financial and administrative requirements of the organization as well as budget monitoring and tracking.
  • H/She will also ensure adequate record keeping of all books of accounts, prepare monthly and annually financial reports for the project.

Minimum Recruitment Standards

  • BS / BA Degree in Accounting, Finance and Business Administration or its recognized equivalent, and 3 – 5 years relevant experience.
  • Or MS/MA degree in Accounting, Finance and Business Administration or its recognized equivalent, and 1 – 3 years relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in accounting related to international development programs.
  • Familiarity with donor-funded programs and non-governmental organizations in Nigeria is an advantage. CPA, ACA, ICAN or recognized equivalent is an advantage. Demonstrated success in multicultural environments is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Nigerian public sector, NGOs, and CBOs.

Job Title: Program Officer

Location: Abuja
Job Category: Fixed Term, Program Management

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Project Lead, provide support to the coordination of the PLANE HQ/State offices.
  • H/She will support program planning, design, review and ensure adequate monitoring of the program planning and implementation at the HQ/State level as well as strengthen systems for reporting on program progress against stated objectives according to the donor guidelines.
  • Also, assist the project lead in development of program strategies, subproject documents, work plans and budgets.

Minimum Recruitment Standards

  • B.Sc / BA in Education, Behavioral Sciences, or its recognized equivalent with 5 – 7 years of relevant experience with international development programs.
  • Or MS/MA degree in education, behavioral sciences, or its recognized equivalent with 3 – 5 years relevant experience with international development programs.

Job Title: Technical Officer – Literacy

Location: Abuja

Responsibilities

  • The Technical Officer for literacy will be responsible for developing and implementing the project’s overall literacy approach, in conjunction with other FHI 360 technical leads.
  • H/She will support in the development or refinement of remedial approach to literacy, Design formative and summative assessment for literacy as well as providing support in designing in-service training materials to improve teachers practice around literacy and building stakeholders’ capacity around evidence-based literacy practices.
  • H/She will also contribute to work planning and report writing.

Minimum Recruitment Standards

  • Bachelor’s Degree or an advanced Degree in Education with a concentration in Early Grade Reading, Literacy, Language Acquisition or related field. At least 3 years’ experience in education reform with a focus on primary education sector work in language acquisition and/or child literacy or reading especially in Hausa Language. certification as reading/literacy specialist preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with government, partners and/or local government structures and school settings.
  • Proven expertise in mother tongue (L1), early grade reading instruction and/or assessment and reading material development, preferably in Hausa Language.
  • Significant experience in developing and producing of supplementary reading materials, workbooks, trainers’ and teachers’ guides and instructional materials to improve early grades reading.
  • Has ability to coordinate reading interventions, set realistic priorities, and plan for the successful implementation of activities
  • Strong leadership qualities and facilitation skills, experience in working with teachers to improve practice
  • Experience in project reporting
  • Demonstrable knowledge of research-based best practices in content-area reading skills and strategies and literacy instruction
  • Experience/preparation in modeling teaching, observing teachers, and providing non-judgmental feedback
  • Familiarity with Nigerian public sector, NGOs, and CBOs.

 

Job Title: Technical Officer Pre – Service

Location: Abuja

Job Description

  • The Technical Officer for Pre-Service will be responsible for developing and implementing the project’s pre-service programming to improve teachers’ skills in basic literacy and math instruction.
  • H/She will assist in the designing, development and revising materials for pre-service in alignment with the Nigerian curriculum and global best practices in literacy and mathematics by supporting to design and review national pre-service education policies.

Minimum Recruitment Standards

  • Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Sociology, Community Development, Social Work and Social Administration or Social Sciences; and must be computer literate (MS Office Packages/Internet).
  • Competency and skills in community engagement and understanding of education and gender issues; sensitivity to cultural differences and understanding of political and ethical issues.

  • The Technical Officer – Materials Development will be responsible for supporting development and distribution of teaching and learning materials in the state.
  • Support in ensuring timely material procurement and distribution as well as conducting school visits to ensure adequate usage of materials.
  • H/She will support in designing and development of teacher guides, pupil books, read aloud stories, posters, and other materials to support literacy and math instruction.

Job Title: Program Assistant

Job Description

  • Under the supervision of the State Coordinator and technical oversight from the Program Officer, the Program Assistant performs functional assistance in relation to planning, design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of activities under PLANE program, also provide support in strengthening systems of reporting on program activities, program strategies and work plan.
  • H/She will also support the program officer in capacity building efforts aimed at Local Implementing Agencies (IAs).

Job Description

  • The State Technical Advisor is responsible for coordinating the technical activities in the state, including teacher trainings; pre-service education; materials development, school leadership strengthening; community mobilizations, and monitoring and evaluation.
  • H/She will provide overall leadership of activities in the state, ensure timely roll-out of teachers training, material distribution and community events. Also liaise closely with DAI state team to promote synergy across PLANE outputs.

Job Title: Outreach Officer

Job Description

  • The Outreach officer will be responsible for overseeing community mobilization and gender inclusion activities in the state, with guidance from the Community Mobilization and Gender Specialist.
  • Will ensure implementing activities to promote enrollment, retention and learning for girls, also ensuring community outreach activities to promote positive norms around girls’ education.
  • H/She will also coordinate with the school-based committees to design school leadership strategies that will promote inclusive education for girls and learners with disabilities.

Minimum Recruitment Standards

  • Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Sociology, Community Development, Social Work and Social Administration or Social Sciences; and must be computer literate (MS Office Packages/Internet).

Job Title: Community Mobilization / Gender Specialist

Job Description

  • The Community Mobilization and Gender Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the overarching community mobilization and gender inclusion strategy of the project, which will be contextualized as required for Kano, Kaduna and Jigawa states.
  • H/She will work closely with the outreach officers to design and implement leadership strategies to promote inclusive education for girls and learners with disabilities.
  • Will design community mobilizations activities to promote improved enrollment, retention, and learning as well as coordinate community outreach activities.

Minimum Recruitment Standards

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Development Studies, Gender Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, or related discipline with 5-7 years working experience in gender integration at the national or international level.
  • Expertise in gender analysis, strategic planning, and integrating gender balance into design and management is required.
  • Experience in dealing with issues of women’s rights and gender mainstreaming within public institutions and/or international organizations.
  • Hand-On experience in design, monitoring and evaluation of development projects.
  • Preferably a recognized gender expert in the field with firsthand experience working with economic development, gender equality issues, public policy, or social development
  • Must be proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Nigerian public sector, NGOs, and CBOs.
