The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organisation whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Location: Biu, Borno

Job Description

  • Under the supervision of the Head of Sub Delegation Yola, Head of BIU Office (HoO) manages the office, its security aspects and its operations in accordance with the strategies, objectives, programs and action plans defined by Yola Sub Delegation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees security management in the area under responsibility, in line with the overall security framework established by the (sub-) delegation in close coordination with Yola Management and ABJ Field Co.
  • Develops and maintains a network of interlocutors as representative of the ICRC in order to ensure access and acceptance;
  • Maintains, oversees and develops a broad network of contacts including state authorities, security agencies, political bodies, community leaders and other humanitarian stakeholders and expands institutional dialogue with them.
  • Contributes to the elaboration of BIU strategies and objectives and ensures the implementation and follow up of related programs and activities, in coordination with the RC/RC Movement, other humanitarian actors and relevant stakeholders
  • Manages the human, financial and material resources of the office in alignment with the ICRC HR and financial management procedures and policies
  • Monitors and analyses the humanitarian, political and security environment for BIU AoR, in order to identify humanitarian needs and protection concerns in order to prioritize ICRC’s response.
  • Has an overview and highlights the main protection concerns + actors in the AoR
  • Oversee the development of protection activities in his/her AoR and reinforces the capacity of the PROT Delegate and FOs covering the AoR to set-up and implement protection activities

Education and Experience Required

  • University Degree or equivalent
  • Typically, 4-6 years overall professional experience and ideally 3-4 years with the ICRC
  • Fluent (min C1) in English. Knowledge of a second ICRC working language an asset
  • Computer proficiency
  • Instuitional courses of HLMS and SCMS an asset

Desired profile and Skills

  • Staff management experience is an asset
  • Good understanding of ICRC programs, especially protection and assistance.
