We design, build and operate the lowest cost hybrid (solar and biomass) power plant and distribution network in India and Africa. To date, Husk has provided electricity to over 15,000 homes and business, reducing 95,000 tonnes of CO2. Our aim is to provide 30MW of power to 225,000 customers by 2025, and save 350,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.

Role Summary

  • We are seeking a Field Distribution Engineer to join the Project and Installation team in Nigeria. This individual will play an integral role in executing and monitoring transmission and distribution networks across HMG locations. This individual should also have in-depth knowledge of power distribution network systems.
  • The individual should also be passionate about contributing to solving one of Nigeria’s most critical challenges – energy access deficit. This position provides the opportunity to join a growing team that is changing the face of rural electrification in many countries in Asia and Africa, including India, Nigeria etc.

Key Responsibilities
General:

  • Play a support role to site leads as a member of the Project and Installation Team for all electrical installations.
  • Support in driving “Best Practices” across the business. Once a “Best Practice” has been identified, ensure that the practice is visible nationally and to another subsidiary.
  • Understand the priorities of the country operations and support the Country Team when necessary
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Electrical Power Distribution Installations:

  • Supervise the ad-hoc staff or contractors in the installation of the power transmission and distribution network.
  • Regularly meet and correspond with clients, equipment suppliers, surveyors, and construction personnel.
  • Responsible for standard distribution network for all projects to meet NEMSA and REA standards.
  • Provide engineering support to operations and maintenance of power distribution systems.
  • Propose cost reduction initiatives while maintaining high efficiency of electrical transmission and distribution systems.
  • Analyse power distribution failures and suggest appropriate resolutions.
  • Work with the Project manager in planning and executing assigned electrical distribution projects within deadlines and budgets.

Qualifications
Does this sound like you?

  • HND in Electrical / Electronic Engineering.
  • 2-5 years of experience within the Nigerian Electricity sector with exposure in the Power distribution sector.
  • Knowledge of overhead and underground construction methods and distribution system equipment.
  • Experience conducting distribution field inspections.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Capable of devising new, more efficient approaches to solving problems and processes.
  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize work.
  • Operationally focused; detailed oriented but able to grasp the big picture.
  • Most importantly, candidates must fit company spirit where people work smart, play hard, have fun, and are dedicated to success.

  • Microsoft Office Software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and have a basic understanding of GIS.

Physical Demands:

  • Have a full range of mobility in the upper and lower body.
  • Could work in outdoor weather conditions at certain times.
  • Have adequate visual and hearing acuity to follow instructions and determine the accuracy of the work assigned.
  • Wear safety equipment and always follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to work in rural, and peri-urban locations as required.
