Job Title: Construction Welding Engineer (NWE)

Project: Rehabilitation & Revamping of Port Harcourt Refinery
Hours / Rotation: Monday to Saturday; No Rotation

Job Summary / Role Description

  • To employ their extensive knowledge of physics, engineering, metallurgy, materials, welding, and standards to design, examine, and evaluate welds as well as to plan, supervise, and document welding operations in accordance with relevant codes, contracts or drawings.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Required to verifies the welded joints, post-weld heat treatments and non-destructive tests are correctly performed according to the approved specifications prepared by the relevant engineering departments.
  • To witness the welding coupon and destructive non-destructive test execution on shop or at laboratories for preparation of Procedure Qualification record (PQR).
  • To support the Home office Welding Group during cycle for the approval of Procedure Qualification Record (PQR), Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and PWHT procedure.
  • To witness the Subcontractor Welder Qualification process.
  • To check that welding machines and ovens are continously calibrated.
  • To check that shop and field welds are performed in compliance with PROJECT specifications and with approved WPS/PQR. NDE and PWHT Procedures etc.
  • To witness the execution of non-destructive tetsts, heat treatment and hardness test.
  • To check the execution of psoitive material identification test.
  • To grant that welding activities and the tests are recorded by Subcontractors in the welding data base.
  • To obtain any necessary approval from Home Office Welding Group for deviation, as appropriate, to welding procedures and for performimg repairs requiring special procedures.
  • To verify the adequacy of information on NDE reports.
  • To verify that adequate and valid welder approvals are available and that only approved welders as required are used in production.

Person Specification
Knowledge & Qualifications:

  • University Degree or equivalent Study background.

Experience:

  • Management experience for an EPC company in for, at least, two plants as  Construction Welding Engineer (NWE)
  • Plants for the gas treatment

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail, management skills
  • Team-oriented skills,  self-motivation and direction, with strong bias toward timely performance and problem resolution
