Youth Network for Community and Sustainable Development (YNCSD) – We are the leading advocacy group of all youth bodies working to end all forms of violence against women and girls including harmful traditional practices in Nigeria. The Youth Network for Community and Sustainable Development is a movement catalyzing social change by engaging young people and amplifying their voices to speak for Human Rights, through targeted advocacy to key players, capacity building and development, communications and media engagements, partnerships and program implementation. We also work on other Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights issues, Governance and Environment.

We are recruiting to fill the following positions below:

1.) Project Assistant

Job Location: Imo or Lagos

About Move2Act Project

 

  • The “Move2Act” project is a high-level advocacy initiative dedicated to advocating for legal reform and ensuring access to safe and judgment-free services and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) care, particularly for women, girls, and other gender minorities in Nigeria.
  • The project will be implemented in Lagos State and Imo State.
  • YNCSD is seeking to engage a project assistant to provide essential support in coordinating, executing, and managing the activities of the Move2Act project in Lagos State and Imo State.

Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the project assistant are as follows:

  • Project Coordination: Assist in the planning, implementing, and monitoring of the Move2Act project activities in Lagos State or Imo State.
  • Advocacy Support: Assist in advocacy efforts for legal reform and the promotion of SRHR, including engaging with policymakers, stakeholders, and civil society organizations. Assist in engaging with policymakers, stakeholders, and civil society organizations to advocate for legal reform. Help in organising advocacy meetings, seminars, and other relevant events.
  • Access to Services: Support efforts to ensure that safe abortion services are accessible to all, including advocating for the removal of barriers to access.
  • Stigma Reduction: Actively participate in public awareness campaigns to challenge stigma and discrimination related to abortion services. Support efforts to identify barriers to access and advocate for their removal. Assist in ensuring safe abortion services are available and accessible.
  • Partnership Building: Assist in building and maintaining partnerships with national and international organizations that share similar goals. Identify potential partners and stakeholders. Assist in establishing and nurturing partnerships for project success.
  • Education and Awareness: Contribute to raising awareness and promoting comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education as part of YNCSD’s advocacy strategy. Contribute to the development and dissemination of educational materials on SRHR.
  • Participate in educational campaigns and outreach activities.
  • Project Planning and Execution: Assist in developing and maintaining project work plans. Coordinate project activities in collaboration with the project team. Ensure timely execution of project tasks and activities within the provided budget.

Qualifications and Requirements
The ideal candidate for the Project Assistant position should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, such as Social Sciences, Public Health, Gender Studies or related disciplines.
  • 2-5 years of previous experience in advocacy or SRHR-related work is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • A master’s Degree will be an advantage
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint),
  • Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and rights issues is an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Willingness to travel within the project implementation areas as required.
  • Applicant should be very familiar with the project implementation state and able to comfortably navigate it.

Reporting Channel:

  • This role will report to the Snr. Technical Officer- SRHR & GBV.

Duration and Remuneration

  • The project assistant position will be for a duration of 3 months, with the possibility of extension.
  • Salary range: 70,000 – 100,000 Naira Monthly.

2.) Technical Officer – SRHR and GBV

Job Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time
Reporting to: Senior Technical Officer

Background

  • The Youth Network for Community & Sustainable Development is a youth-led movement catalyzing social change by engaging young people on critical sexual and reproductive issues affecting them and amplifying their voices to speak for Human Rights, through targeted advocacy to key players, capacity building and development, communications, and media engagements, partnerships, and programme implementation. We also work on a broad range of issues such as Gender, Governance, and Environment, however, our priority over the years has been on Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights
  • Since its inception, YNCSD has been catalyzing the efforts of young people towards ending Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) and gender-based violence, through effective programming that transforms the social norms underpinning these practices as well as promoting reproductive health and Rights for women and girls. Part of our activities is to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted and that women and girls have access to reproductive health services and are given the opportunity to exercise full agency over their bodies. We pride ourselves on being a leading youth-led organization delivering quality programmes and interventions for our donors and partners based in Nigeria and globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research: Conduct thorough research on SRHR and GBV topics, including current trends, best practises, and evidence-based interventions. Stay updated on the latest developments in the field to inform program design and implementation.
  • Program Development: Collaborate with the team to develop comprehensive programs that address SRHR and GBV issues. Ensure that programs are evidence-based, culturally sensitive, and aligned with international standards and guidelines.
  • Capacity building: Provide technical support to staff members, partners, or stakeholders involved in implementing SRHR/GBV interventions. Conduct trainings or workshops to enhance knowledge of key concepts, methodologies, or tools related to the field.
  • Collaboration: Foster partnerships with relevant organizations or institutions working in the field of SRHR/GBV. Participate in coordination meetings or working groups to contribute insights from our organization’s experiences.
  • Proposal writing: Prepare high-quality proposals for funding opportunities related to SRHR and GBV initiatives. Utilize strong writing skills to clearly articulate program objectives, activities, outcomes, and budget requirements.
  • Monitoring and evaluation: Develop robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks to measure the impact of SRHR/GBV programs. Collect relevant data, analyze findings, and generate comprehensive reports to assess program effectiveness.
  • Identify gaps/challenges in service delivery for survivors and coordinate with relevant actors to ensure that safe and confidential services are made available and accessible to survivors of GBV and vulnerable individuals.
  • In coordination with the program department, and informed by community consultations, establish and manage relationships with activists from the KP communities.
  • Contribute to knowledge management by recording and documenting results and lessons learned.
  • Work with Senior Programme Associate to ensure financial and administrative protocols are complied with
  • Lead on technical reporting to the donors and other stakeholders
  • Lead in the delivery of capacity training for LBQ and Sex Worker communities on SRH product use and uptake
  • Regularly engage with wider YNCSD team to improve knowledge sharing, coordination and to identify opportunities to support LGBTIQ+ and Sex Worker movement building.
  • In collaboration with the Advocacy Unit, identify and design initiatives that can respond to the capacity needs of LGBTIQ+, and Sex Workers community-led organizations and activists
  • Design Organizational Capacity Assessment Tools targeted at LGBTIQ+ and Sex Worker Organizations and Activists aimed at understanding gaps in SRH product and service provision
  • Represent YNCSD in relevant meetings and convenings particularly within the Key Population Eco-system in Nigeria and at international platforms
  • Support the Business Development Team in the design of new KP related projects and interventions
  • Participate actively in regional Safe Abortion Movements and platforms

Skills and Experiences Required

  • At least 3-5 years of experience working with KP communities in Nigeria
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the context and organizing specifically within the KP movement in Nigeria.
  • Extensive knowledge of SRHR concepts and global policy frameworks, including abortion concepts and ecosystems in Africa
  • Ability to organize, identify opportunities, and coordinate initiatives
  • Flexible and adaptable approach and able to respond to shifting priorities and a rapidly evolving context
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, particularly experience in managing a multi-community initiative
  • Ability to make an effective contribution to teamwork, and contribute to broader organizational
  • goals and strategies
  • Must be based in Abuja
  • Must demonstrate emotional intelligence
  • Must be willing to write extensively, including policy briefs and project reports

Highly Desired:

  • Previous experience working in/with diverse communities and movements
  • Experience convening and facilitating meetings or processes that bring diverse communities and voices together for decision-making or to advance shared goals.
  • Previous experience in SRH advocacy and service provision interventions for KPs in Nigeria
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of project management and any grantmaking experience
  • We are interested in applicants who are familiar with or are part of the KP communities.

Salary expectation
N90,000 – N125,000 / month (depending on experience).

  • Media Platform Analysis: Evaluate YNCSD’s presence across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, website, and email to understand the current brand representation and engagement levels.
  • Comprehensive Brand Analysis: Conduct an in-depth analysis of YNCSD’s platforms to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, considering factors like content quality, audience engagement, and visual consistency.
  • Internal Brand Audit: Review YNCSD’s internal branding materials and communications to ensure they align with the organization’s mission, values, and desired brand image.
  • Branding Strategy Development: Design a comprehensive branding strategy framework customized for each platform. This framework will encompass messaging, visual guidelines, and engagement strategies to elevate the brand’s effectiveness.
  • Detailed Reporting: Create a comprehensive report summarizing the brand analysis, including key findings and strategic recommendations for improving brand presence and impact.
  • Collaboration with Communications Team: Work closely with the Communications team to ensure the smooth execution of the developed branding strategy across all platforms, ensuring consistency and alignment.

Deliverables:

  • Media Platform Insights Report: A comprehensive analysis report detailing the brand’s current presence, engagement levels, and audience demographics on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, website, and email.
  • SWOT Analysis Report: A document highlighting the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats identified in the brand analysis, accompanied by insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Brand Analysis and Recommendations Report: A detailed report summarizing the overall brand analysis, key findings, and strategic recommendations for improving YNCSD’s brand positioning.
  • Internal Brand Audit Assessment: An assessment report ensuring that all internal brand materials, including documents and communications, align with the organization’s mission and values.
  • Platform-Specific Branding Strategy Framework: A tailored strategy document for each platform outlining guidelines for messaging, visual identity, and engagement strategies to enhance brand impact.
  • Collaboration and Execution Summary: A document detailing the collaborative efforts with the Communications team, explaining how the branding strategy will be executed seamlessly across platforms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Design, Communications, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • 2 years of work experience.
  • Knowledge of current industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in branding.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex ideas in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to think creatively and strategically.
  • Proven experience as a Branding Strategist or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing successful brand campaigns.
  • In-depth understanding of branding principles and techniques.
  • Proficiency in analyzing social media platforms and web analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with non profit organisation brand representation or a similar field
