Rector at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko

The Federal Polytechnic, Oko – The Institution known as Federal Polytechnic, Oko, has a history dating back to its establishment by the Anambra State Government in 1979 as a College of Arts and Science. Over the years, it underwent several transitions. In June 1980, it was upgraded to a College of Arts, Science, and Technology. By 1985, an Edict of the Anambra State Government formalized the institution’s status as a Polytechnic and named it Anambra State Polytechnic, Oko. In 1993, the Federal Government took over the State Polytechnic, renaming it Federal Polytechnic, Oko, with campuses in Atani and Ufuma.

Preamble

  • The Federal Polytechnic, Oko, is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Rector, which will become vacant on February 4, 2024.

The Rector

  • The Rector is the Chief Academic, Administrative, and Accounting Officer of the Polytechnic.
  • They have the authority over both the staff and students and are responsible for discipline within the Polytechnic, under the general control of the Governing Council.
  • The Rector is one of the Principal Officers of the Polytechnic.
  • The successful candidate must have management and leadership experience, a passion for academic endeavors, and credibility.

Academic Qualifications and Qualities
The candidate for the Rector position must possess the following qualifications and qualities:

  • A Doctorate (PhD) Degree from a recognized institution in a discipline offered in the Polytechnic Sector or any requirement stipulated in the Schemes of Service for the appointment of a Chief Lecturer.
  • A minimum of a second class lower division Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) with Lower Credit in a discipline offered in the Polytechnic Sector from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of seventeen (17) years of teaching experience in tertiary institutions, with at least ten (10) years in a Polytechnic or similar TVET institution.
  • Should be a Chief Lecturer from the Polytechnic sector with not less than five (5) years of experience in the rank.
  • Not more than fifty-nine (59) years of age as of February 4, 2024.
  • Evidence of strong academic and administrative leadership initiative, creativity in policy formulation, good human relations, and positive managerial attributes.
  • Membership in professional body/bodies recognized by the Federal Government.
  • Scholarly publications in reputable journals and presentation of invited papers at educational conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  • Ability to attract research grants and development facilities to the Polytechnic.
  • Initiative, vision, and the capacity to sustain the Polytechnic’s development even under financial and other challenging constraints.
  • Should not pursue racial, gender, political, religious, or other sectional interests.
  • Morally sound, of impeccable character, proven integrity, and free from financial embarrassment.
  • Physically and mentally fit (with evidence from a Government hospital).
  • Proficient in Information & Communication Technology (ICT).

Terms of Appointment and Condition of Service
The appointment is for a single tenure of five (5) years in line with existing provisions. The salary is consolidated, and the appointee shall enjoy any other benefits attached to the position of a Principal Officer of the Polytechnic as approved by the Federal Government.

  • Names and addresses of three (3) Referees (Employer, Educational, and Personal) who are to forward Confidential Reports directly to the Registrar, Federal Polytechnic Oko. These referees should be able to attest to the candidate’s claim to high academic and managerial capabilities, as well as the candidate’s notable uprightness.
