We have strategic partnership with leading pharmaceuticals manufacturers in Europe and other overseas countries. DTNLhas a unique distribution and marketing network of more than 50 sales and medical representatives (comprising mostly of Pharmacists), as well as a wholesale organization and chain of local pharmacies. For other business ventures we have nation-wide distribution chains.

With well over 25 years in the market, we are expanding our business scope to include manufacturing of pharmaceutical products. The pharmaceuticalmanufacturing plant is locatedat Ogidi, outskirt of Onitsha in Anambra State.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Head of Plant – Pharmaceuticals

Job Description

  • An indigenous Pharmaceutical company is looking for a Head of Plant to provide leadership, strategic direction, and tactical oversight to the facility, which includes all production operations and the related support functions directly or indirectly (Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain/ Warehousing, Procurement, Technical Services, Others). This Job is located in Onitsha-Ogidi, Anambra State, Nigeria.

Job Summary

  • The successful candidate will coordinate and control production activities. Implements production plan/targets according to cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice). Supervises employees engage in manufacturing process and dispenses batches according to known standards.

Duties

  • Co-ordinates the planning and organization of the manufacturing process of the company.
  • Implements Operational manuals, production plans and programs.
  • Ensures conformance of manufacturing processes with organizational objectives and polices.
  • Checks the availability of adequate raw and packing materials, utilities, filters and machine size parts.
  • Fulfills the monthly and weekly production plans according to the schedule.
  • Monitors drugs manufacturing activities in compliance with the requirements of cGMP.
  • Ensures that all standard yield are maintained by production lines.
  • Controls production process and production facilities.
  • Ensures the general cleanliness and hygienic conditions of the plant.
  • Ensures that all production equipments are maintained in good working order.
  • Lead in pilot scale trials of products under development.
  • Ensures that there is discipline and good working culture among the staff.
  • Makes sure the on job training of production personnel.
  • Ensures the hygienic condition of production personnel.
  • Ensures production people wear mask, gloves and shoes before entering into production.
  • Prepares daily reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for any delay during daily as well as weekly work schedule.
  • Decides either to reject or use by sorting non-conforming raw and packing materials discovered during the manufacturing process after discussing with other team involved.
  • Takes decision about where engaging man power in absence of work.
  • Responsible for planning of work according to weekly program.
  • Coordinates all activities in the plant.
  • Not responsible for cash.
  • Responsible for materials issued from warehouse for manufacturing.
  • Responsible to keep all confidential matters secret and protect the interest of the company.
  • Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations to exceed our customers’ expectations
  • Increase production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards
  • Be responsible for production output, product quality and on-time shipping
  • Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results
  • Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus
  • Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions
  • Share a trusting relationship with workgroup and recruit, manage and develop plant staff
  • Collect and analyze data to find places of waste or overtime
  • Commit to plant safety procedures
  • Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets
  • Address employees’ issues or grievances and administer collective bargaining agreements
  • Stay up to date with latest production management best practices and concepts
  • Adequate assessment of the working condition of all production equipment
  • Ensure the general cleanliness and hygienic conditions of the manufacturing areas and production personnel
  • Supervise the job responsibilities of all production staff and ensure discipline and good working culture amongst them
  • Prepares daily/weekly/monthly production reports indicating relevant KPIs

Authority:

  • Authorized to recommend the promotion of his sub-ordinate staff members
  • Authorized to write warning letter to his sub-ordinate staff members

Efforts Required:

  • High mental effort is required.
  • Requires a lot of highphysical effort for monitoringvarious processing operationsand fortrouble shootingactivities.
  • Requires a lot ofvisual effortsto accomplish documentation and other routine paper works.

Working Conditions

  • Exposed to dustof different drugs, which cause allergic reactions as well as mental and physical fatigue.
  • Exposed to physical injury..

Requirements & Skills

  • Proven work experience as a Plant Manager
  • Proven managerial experience
  • Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources)
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical industry standard equipment and technical expertise
  • Be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, and inventory.
  • Computer literacy is mandatory
  • Ability to create accountability and to lead by example
  • Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills
  • Minimum of Bachelors degree, preferably in Pharmacy or any Medical related field, or in Engineering. Masters degree will be an advantage.
  • 15+ years leadership experience in a cGMP manufacturing environment of which 10+ years in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • A track record of accomplishment in prioritizing and planning production activites
  • The ability to react well under pressure, to handle multiple competing projects or priorities under tight timelines or restrictions
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement strategy and results in improving efficiency at plant level.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and achieve results through others.
